guns in the grocery store

We have an Ohaus triple beam for shop use. Balancing insert tooling for wood shapers, use it occasionally for race engine parts, epoxy, etc.

5? years ago,was in this huge (500k sq ftg) estate liquidator joint looking for 1930's American repro furniture and over, buried in a corner was this dust covered triple beam scale for 20$. I knew what it was from our "baby" version. The papa bear model is the 1119D.

Just sayin, you never know what's gonna turn up. Here's a current, middle of the pack evilbay offering.

Sikhs are usually pretty good folks in my experience.
They're darn sure not the nonviolent sorts. I respect that.
Is the current content so lackluster that you dug up a vaguely racist thread from 2+ years ago?

And what you're saying above is that they are violent. (Not nonviolent = violent)

This is an old thread but I'm not surprised by the reaction. Sikhs are a warrior cast. A large portion of the Indian military ranks are filled with Sikhs. The stereotype of an Indian wearing a turban is the image of the Sikh. They are the ones who usually wear the turban and under that turban is hair down to their butts. They would probably be very interested in what you are shooting. Non-Sikh Indians maybe not so much. Sikhs are also some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Though not Sikh, our humble administrator could tell you more.

Didn't see the OP as anything remotely resembling a "racists" post , as I know more than a few Sikh's , but I have read a few racially "slanted" comments from other posters . Open commentary creates open discussions . Rather see that . Than P.C. and "Cancel Culture" start to infect this site ! Racists , my ass . Some of you people think everything is "Racists" ! Get over yourselves .

So we've a small grocery/general store just down the way where I've often checked gun weights in the past. A 17lb Light gun is just kindofa' weird weight, too small for the bathroom scale, too big for the postal scale so I used this guy's meat and produce scales...

Was just in there a half hour ago getting my 10 yr-old his hunting tags and found new owners. Indians. "Sikhs" not "Native Americans"..... the soft-spoken people with huge beards and teeny wives in brilliantly colored dresses type Indians.

"Well" I thunk to myself..... "THIS might change the dynamic!" :)

So I went back to the meat dept and discreetly asked one of the guys what they thought. The kid was like 16 or 10yrs old and he's like "WHAT? You mean bring in a real weapon? In The STORE??" I said "like, yeahhh, I like useta' weight my guns here..."

He's like "KEWL!" .... "yeahh!"...."Like, let me go ask!" (I though "maybe he speaks sikhhh...?")

So he asks....

A few minutes later this huge beard-n-turban with a guy under it slides over and asks "so teell me, v'WHAT iss it chu' vant to do?? Stick a gun in my meat scales???"

"yeahh"

"OOOHHhhhhh, NO PROBLEM!! You... ANY TIME!!"

"Make it eassy! Use the big vegetable scale right out in front!"

"Here! Let me tell my wife OK!" "Hello, this is my wife Serah and she will now know that when you walk in with guns NO PROBLEM! She hold the door for you!! :D "

"You just bring in your guns any time!"

And from then on things went rawther smoothly from good to better...... I assured them that I was very discreet, potty-trained and very clean and would have very nice cases and boxes and........he interrupted........ "Ohh NO!! NO PROBLEM!! Just pring da' guns right in!! NO NEED to cover them up!!"

So anyways. It doesn't look as though I've lost my secret access to certified scales :)

Funny, but great story! I guess you never know how a person will react until you ask! Not going to lie, I'm not sure if I would have asked in the first place. Just goes to show, some of our per conceded notions could be way off point! Plus, sound like you made some new friends! Double win!

Long time ago we were thinking of a retirement business. We thought of a liquor store/gun store/strip club/bail bonds/attorney office. We'd figured that we covered all the angles in a one stop shopping complex.
You forgot the chrome shop, live bait, laundromat, and the machine that you drop a quarter into and hope that the bar rakes off more than you put in it. Not to mention hardware and drive-thru for beer. And free car wash if your cash register tab is over $25.

India[edit]
Guns in India are strictly regulated by law. The Arms Act, 1959 and the Arms Rules 1962 prohibit the sale, manufacture, possession, acquisition, import, export, and transport of firearms and ammunition unless under a license, which is difficult to obtain. The Indian Government has a monopoly over the production and sale of firearms, with the exception of some breech-loading smooth-bore shotguns, of which a limited number may be produced and imported.[39] The Arms Act classifies firearms into two categories: Prohibited Bore (PB) and Non-Prohibited Bore (NPB), where all semi-automatic and fully automatic firearms fall under the Prohibited Bore category. The Arms Act of 1962 added to the PB category any firearm which can chamber and fire ammunition of the caliber .303, 7.62 mm, .410, .380, .455, .45 rimless, or 9 mm. Smooth-bore guns having barrels shorter than 20 in (510 mm) are also specified as PB guns
LoL
in 1962, 5.56/223 wasn't prominent enough to ban.

I'll give a 10% finders fee for that idea! Maybe we can franchise that or have a mall type of shopping experience.

Discussing a group of people based on their ethnicity, and commenting how 'they're good people" or "non-violent" or "just like the rest of us" etc. is indeed an unflattering discussion of race. And has no place on a shooting forum.

And digging up this topic after 2+ years? Why?

No one is more opposed to the PC and Cancel Culture (let's call it CC) than I am. No one. I would rather have a Gina Carano action figure on my workbench than five thousand primers and 8 lbs of Varget.
