Remember the NRA has gun insurance

Remember you have to activate it

Remember it's a false sense of security with marginal coverage. See your insurance agent about REAL coverage.

(PS Let's not get into a full blown discussion AGAIN about NRA insurance. I presume you will find the recent thread if you enter the word "insurance" in the search.)

Most of the standard home security systems can be defeated very easily before you enter the house so you might not want to rely on them all that much. Defeating them is not a technological feat, and I am sure it is well known.

True, but a couple cameras and a Dog allows the local PD time to respond to your alarm..Nothing is fail safe and hindsight is always 20/20..Dogs do tend to deter all but the worst of the burglars, The others are the worst! Usually someone you know or someone willing to do harm.

A dog is the best deterrent, as only somebody very intent on getting into the house is mentally equipped and prepared to kill it. Most thieves hear all the barking racket and just figure "nothing here gained/nothing here lost, and they almost always just move on to an easier target .

BUT, if someobody keeps there valuables in a real 1,000 lb safe (or a 500LB safe bolted to the floor), and not one of those ridiculous thin gage lockers, the safe and the blaring alarm is a pretty good deterrent. The biggest problem with most alarms is that folks do not want to pay the extra monthly charges for a wireless system that will still notify authorities in the event that the thief first cuts the exposed phone lines outside of the house. A blaring siren and a heavy duty safe will thwart most burglaries unless you are out in the sticks with nobody to hear or see a thing.

Ask me how I know these things.
