Local gun store selling on gunbroker for absurd price

On gunbroker I was looking to see what places in Georgia was selling primer from. (Good way to call stores in that area to see if they have any in).

Anyhow I see a store name as the username for selling the primer. Which is the absurd price of $300+ for a brick.

I call the store, ask to speak to the owner and asked if they had any. The guy laughed, like they all do. He explained he hasn't seen them in several months. I let him Yap my ears off on his Conspiracy theories what is going on.

So I then asked him, are you username "x" (which is the store name)? And he hangs up on me.

How messed up is that?

Also the quantity he is selling is 10+ bricks of ten different types of primers.

By the way. I'm not one to expose the name of the place I've seen. But search your own state and look at the username. You might be shocked just like me discovering it's your local gun store.

What are your thoughts?

I had another gun store tell me how they were getting critical duty 9mm on a Friday. So I call that Friday asking if he got them in. He tells me he has 40 boxes and they won't be gone by 6 PM (due to they sell one box, per day, per household). Well we live on the lake in the middle of no where and it's a crazy small county.

Anyhow I leave and get there in ten minutes. I go in seeing there is nothing in. So I'm thinking maybe it's in the back. So I ask the people up front if they got any in. They tell me 9mm hasn't been seen for 2 weeks.

So I explain I talked to the owner. And they holler for the owner to come up. I tell him how I just talked to him and he told me they sold them and he put the rest in the back. (Which is no way because there would have still been a line and his employees wouldn't be lying to me). I repeated to him what our conversation was and he said, I'll be right back and get you a box.

So that told me right there they are hiding their stuff. So they can make you come in every day to look and to buy other crap.

I cannot stand liars. And some of these gun stores are doing this to pandemic of ammo to us.

I won't say all are. But this is 2 places I've spent a lot of money at for all my life. And I now will never spend a dime there.

If I was a business owner and it was sell what I have at a high price to keep the doors open.... you damn right I’m selling it at a high price. Ain’t no doubt I would try to keep some for the locals at fair price but the majority is going online. If he doesn’t do it the people buying it will and you may not have a gun store at all. Low and behold who knows when he will be getting ANYTHING additional to sell.....be it guns, or ammo, or powder, or primers?

I can't be mad at the market value going up. But what has me mad is the lying. And why not sell it for that on your store to locals?

I get it, I know gun manufacturers who went from spending 1 cent per primer, to 4.5, and when it got to 14.5 they said enough was enough.

So I'm sure store owners are paying close to 15 cents. ($150 a brick). So asking $300 is fine, due to the market has gone up.

I don’t agree with the dishonesty either but the prices are fair game right now. Everyone hates to see it but it’s true whether we admit it or not. Things will only be getting much worse in the coming months...and I’m sure these store owners who have put everything on the line realize that too. Their shortages mean much more to them then ours do to us.

It's a tough call but it is the American way, capitalism.Maybe we should be angry at those paying it. Hard to fault a small business owner who has no idea when he might get more product but is now in possession of an item he can get big bucks for. My vote is to be unhappy with those paying way over value for product.

inventory depleted ,covid 19 BS , unknown future on supplies not the most envious position to be in ,not sure what I'd do btw have seen similar pricing online and at gunshow

Agreed. But this owner has 100 bricks. And making 3 times as much profit from just primers.

I can see the store owners point to make money, but he's
driving away his base once this is all over with if he won't
sell for a reasonable price to his core people.
I can't support someone that doesn't support me.
These gun store owners doing this most have forgotten that when we walk away from a business, a lot walk away.

How many times has walmart tried playing politics with removing ammo/guns and then they brought it back because their business hurt?

My thoughts are many shops are doing that. On one hand they dont want to piss their local customers off by charging ultra high prices now, so they try to make it seem like their taking care of the locals in the store, and on the other hand ya gotta make hay when the sun shines so they will sell what they can and get what they can at GB type sites. Its capitalism and i cant blame any of them. If I had an LSG Id move toward majority online sales permanent like.
I would move my business to on the internet as much as possible.

Regular store owners in our malls wish they would done that 15 years ago. Because I remember going to malls 20 years ago and a few stores were closed. But now I step in there and it's a good 90% of stores are closed.

This world is becoming like the jetsons cartoon. Only difference is we are staying inside looking at our screens with rarely socially interacting.

If he sells it at the normal price, then someone else is gonna buy it and sell it on gunbroker for $300. Profit should go to him

Another question. Would you complain if he put primers on sale 3 years ago for $15/1000 because he had too much in stock? Or would you buy them?

I will not shop with him in the future. Due to not wanting to sell to locals and lie about not having any.
- he can sell it at market value of 300+ in store and that's fine. Because that's market value..... I'm sure some locals would gripe. But at least they can get it instead of the internet of playing games.

Also in my neck of the woods it's mostly elders who reload and hunt. And kids hunt call of duty (or whatever Mario game is now the hot thing to do)...... Anyhow those elders do not get into online ordering. Heck most of them don't even know they can get food delivered to their car at Walmart or possibility their door steps.

So a business owner doing this will be hurting himself when elders find this out. Because they'll go shop at the other gun store on the other side of town. And at their hunting clubs and breakfast hangouts, they'll tell everyone to not do business with that business....... And you can't say they won't. I watched walmart a couple times pull their guns and those boys not shop their, and walmart put their guns back out.

The ones griping are the ones who didn't stock up when they could. Whose fault is that?
The value of something is determined by what someone will pay and if the new administration heavily taxes or prohibits the sale of reloading components, today's prices may seem cheap.
Hope everyone who voted for the most anti-gun president in history is proud.
