Favorite 6mm BR Loads

6mmBR

21.5” bbl
105g Hornady BTHP
Lap 6BR brass
2.31” oal
Rem 7 1/2 BR primer

2725fps - very accurate
G'day Bob'o, I am running 103 Copper Heads {BhN coated} with 29.3gr 2208, Jam .007-8 CCI-450, 28"barrel.
Very accurate and have turned 10 shots at 300mt into 1-3/4" group off the mound in F-open.
Next up will use some Bench Mark 2 as some test loads of 28.3 & 28.5 showing one hole groups at 100mt.
HOT and windy today at Wingham NSW today at 800yds... Running mirage too! 2d to a 6.5x284 as things fell apart second string... otherwise I would have had his cake!

I thought I would post this.
Last weekend, I shot 30.8 grins of VV N150 behind my new 103 grn BT. Accuracy at 200 yards was very good, velocity an average 2910 FPS out of a 27 inch 1-8 Krieger.
Sir how long is your free bore and was it hard to get that much N150 in the case? I’m trying to figure out whether to experiment w/ 150 or 140 with 105gr class bullets. Thanks much

Haven’t considered jamming mine - running about 0.015 off the lands. Will be interested to try an 0.005 jam just to see.
The Copperheads are a good thing ‘eh?
Regards.

Not a favorite just yet... but I’m finding acceptable accuracy with 105 grain Berger VLD target touching the lands, 29 grains of IMR 4166, ignited by a Winchester small rifle primer...

Absolutely, Ken makes the real deal... Just laid in 1,600 {also if you buy a K or more he gives a discount} as he was having trouble getting jackets supplied from the USA... Sierra makes them.
Good bloke to deal with and supports a local {OZ} industry... He is in Wodonga Vic.
I have run the gamete of Berger's range and never could get the performance that the Copper Head 103's do but Sierra 107's were very close especially with some RL15 behind them {RL15=$$$ and hard to get!} and once the 107's were fairly cheap but no more.
The 103 weight seems to be a sweet spot for the 6BR.
Running 107's and 108 in my 6BRAI though... Pushing them harder though, about 3,200fps
Look for about 2850-2950 fps somewhere in there will be a performance sweet spot for your rifle and keep bore erosion down as opposed to cranking it up over 3,000 fps.
Don't know what the 29.3gr of 2208 is doing, I just know that it really shoots well. May bother to get our range Crono out and see what they are doing just for reference... {:~)
BTW: The load advice originally came from Rushty, a bloke in WA but often on this forum...

This just a .060 free bore. My bullets are around a 15 ogive, with about a .020 rebate on the boat tail.
it surprised me when the 150 worked so well. here is a picture of my bullet with about .015 jump.58EE6653-DF14-4A0E-9199-963FA3FDA58A.jpeg

I don’t expect this will surprise anyone but thought I’d share my learnings.

Been running two loads in the new 6BR - 87g Vmax and 105g Hornady BTHP.

Was jumping them both about 0.015”. Accuracy was good with both, though the 105 BTHP was a bit better.

Changed both loads to a 0.005” jam. Group sizes shrank appreciably - by at least 33%

I suspect with load tuning I’ll do better again though it’s now approaching being a half-moa rifle, which considering it’s a spare-parts multi-purpose predator rifle is pretty good!

For the record the two loads are:

105g BTHP 28.8g H4895 OAL 2.325” 2740fps
87g Vmax 30.5g H4895 OAL 2.225” 2997fps

Brass is Lap, Rem 7.5 primer. Barrel length 21.5”

Worked up a nice 75g Vmax load for foxes and cats:

6mmBR Norma
Lap Brass
Rem 7.5 prmr
75g Hdy Vmax
31.7g H4895 / AR2206H
OAL 2.222” (0.005” jam)
Speed 3202fps ave for a ten shot string
BBL 21.5” 1-7”t

Accuracy hovering around 0.45moa out of my spare parts Varminter-Predator rifle.

Thought someone might have a use for this info.

What brand of 105's are you using? Primers? I have a lot of Berger 105 Hybrid's sitting around...
The 103's that I use work so well with a 7-8 thou jam that when accuracy fell a bit I re-checked the AOL as I knew there was a bit of errosion in the throat and when I added .003 to the AOL of my next batch of reloads the accuracy returned. Keeping them jammed seems to work a treat.

The 105 is the Hornady BTHP. Primers are Rem 7.5

Because if I stuff them into the lands the load is too hot "even for me" So I started pushing the bullet into the case 50 thou at a time to bleed some pressure off, and kept doing it until I got rid of the "sticky bolt" and then I found the grouping was so good that I kept on loading them like that. When ever I go shooting I always bring my buddy with me, no not that buddy this buddy I mount one of my RCBS Rock chuckers on it and saves the day every time.

I'm curious if anyone has tried Re15 with 70 gr. NBT or Sierra BK in 1-14 twist barrel,Lapua standard neck brass. I have some Re15 & don't want to use my N135,Varget,or 8208 with supplies being in such short supply. Thanks

I have a 6BR 14 twist Cooper varmint and its favourite load is 30.5grns of Vit 135 pushing a 68grn Berger, sparked off by a Fed 205M primer out of Lapua brass. This load passes over the chrono for an average of 3120FPS and is extremely accurate.
