It Happened to Me -- Insurance

Most of you all need to back it down a hair because you aren't addressing the problem that Dave is discussing.

From State Farm:

What's True
State Farm does not insure any type of manufacturing business, including firearms.

Manufacturing Business insurance is completely different from your typical homeowner's policy or car insurance policy. There are many more dollars and structured elements involved that regular citizens don't require. I've had all my insurance with State Farm for my whole insured time on this Earth. I DO NOT use State Farm for my Business Insurance because they do not offer that side of the insurance business.
Can I ask, have you ever filed a claim?

My Father was career Air Force, my one Son was career Air Force, my Brother was Army, my Brother in Law was career Air Force. All have USAA except my deceased father. As an enlisted man in those days they only accepted officers only. He had to go to the old Government Employees Insurance Co.
I am not qualified!
USAA has changed over the years................not always for the good.

They have opened up who they accept quite a bit.

I tried to get a quote for my house and cars from state farm about 4 years ago. In the process I mentioned I had a gun shop on site. I was told they could not insure me and that was that.
I had that exact discussion with my State Farm rep...no problems at all...

Nationwide, fifty years auto, thirty years home, two small claims. Wife's car is hit when stopped at a red traffic light behind another car, here car is totaled. Nationwide premium almost doubles. Call to find out WTH is going on. They said it was her fault. Ten phone calls, police report, two weeks of BS to get that straightened out. After that claim was finally settled, I said bye bye. Got Progressive, banged up my tailgate a couple years later, more claim headaches and unsatisfactory repairs, bye bye to them. Hope I'm not striking out on the third try with LM.

At least no one is recommending switching to Progressive.
USAA doesn't write commercial vehicle insurance. They refer people to Progressive and literally are the middleman. The conversation with Progressive is relayed via USAA. It didn't turn out well either.

LM has a clause that states if your roof is over 10 years old and you file a claim on it, will pay ACV not RCV, look it us because it can get really expensive.

GEICO now owned by Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway along with other insurance company entities

I have a local UPS storefront that has same independent policy. Refuses to ship anything firearms related. Not including FFL items. That is completely different. Even returning a bolt for an AR to the wholesaler, no dice. Had to start categorizing as machine parts.

Yeah I know Gary. In the olden days Government Employees Insurance Co. was for enlisted men. USAA was for officers only initially. Other than my BIL, retired Major, the rest of my family that have USAA didn't use them until they accepted enlisted personal.
My BIL had his collection of early 1911 pistols (6ea) stolen from his home and he was satisfied with his check as well as having his new 2500HD 4x4 crewcab Chev stolen from his rear driveway. They made him happy.

I won’t go off on a rant about insurance but........
I always liked to think I got what I paid for, made a claim for hail damage roof (only claim I have ever made in 30+ years). Adjuster was coming to look it over, I told them I wanted to be present, SOB came and went and went as he pleased. They wanted to repair it rather than replace, repair cost fell under my deductible.
I had a well known roofer in the area inspect it, pictures estimate and all.
Round and round the game went. I got PO’d paid for ALL of it out of pocket, steel roof rather than asphalt. Insurance came out and looked it over. Oh glory be they informed me since it was steel I would get a better rate, I was told it would be a substantial savings. Now wait for it,here it comes........saves me $50 a year.

You may as well get the cheapest you can find. Getting what you pay for ain’t gonna happen.

Not my experience. I have Germania, but I think they are Texas only. Had a hot water heater spring a leak and ruined over 2000' of hardwood floors. Ixed me right up. Hail damage on a 15yr old roof. All shingles removed and new roof installed. I added ridge vents. My only cost was the ridge vents.
I can't speak for other insurance companies, but I'm very happy with Germania. I switched from Farmers about 15 years ago to Germania and saved $500 a year in premiums.

We went shopping for insurance for my company owned truck. State Farm declined to quote it. After pressing them as to why, we were told they don't do business with anyone in THAT industry.
Unless this is something new, find a different agent. When my agent and I visit (every few years), we talk guns and cars.

I doubt it was the agent. I live in a rural county of 13,000. I wake up to gunfire every morning. It's duck season. Gunfire is a regular thing here. If they discriminated against every pickup truck with a dog box in the back they wouldn't have any customers. The truck is in my company's name. Kind of dead give away what business I'm in.
We're with another company but checked with USAA. As of this morning we now have our two other vehicles moved to them. USAA doesn't write commercial insurance. They sent me to Progressive. My wife was handling that call and she didn't answer a couple of questions correctly then they declined.
Commercial can be tricky. I ran my own shop for 17 years and it was "interesting" securing insurance. Wound up going with a company named "Red Shield". Covering property and BIPD is simple stuff, although a few customers required $4M in policy coverage. E&O is a whole different thing, though once I was covered for that, it was simple to renew.
State farm is, and was always very clear about business stuff not being covered. Too bad your agent said, "that industry."
I got around a lot of their restrictions regarding business equipment with an Inland Marine policy addition. Expensive, but cheaper than commercial.
I've been screwed over by Nationwide and Liberty Mutual. Multiple friends have been hosed by Farmers.

I was told by may agent to get an estimate by a roofer, THEN call them to file a claim. If they send an adjuster first, they will only inspect to repair, not replace.
