It Happened to Me -- Insurance

Can I ask what company you work for? Matt
And if they can't deny it, they pay it.... just like they're supposed to. Each policy is a contract with duties from both parties. There are situations in every policy, from every carrier that have reasons to deny. It's not on a whim that an estimator feels like denying a claim.

I was told by may agent to get an estimate by a roofer, THEN call them to file a claim. If they send an adjuster first, they will only inspect to repair, not replace.
It does help to get an estimate from a roofer first because if you don't have enough damage to surpass your deductible, you'll know before you "make a claim." If you have SF come out first and find out that it's not as bad as you first thought and don't get a check, you already made the claim. But also consider that contractors will tell you that you have a lot of damage when you might not. They aren't all that way, but it's food for thought.

Not surprised at anybody having problems with SF. Live out in the country. Been covered by State Farm for over 50 years.
Had a walk by home inspection. Was told that they were going to cancel my homeowners because the house needed painting and I didn't paint it by a specific time?? At the time it was 35 degrees and had been raining for 5 days straight. Paint won't dry under 45".
Have NEVER filed a claim since I've been covered by them.
Told them to go ahead and cancel my homeowners policy and while they were at it, cancel my 3 car's policy as well as my life policy. I also told them that my sister, both of my kids and my folks would ALL be canceling their policies also. And any body else that I knew.
Funny thing? They changed their mind real fast and said everything was good to go. I guess the CC letter that I wrote to the Insurance Commissioner may have also had something to do with their decision?
They were trying to dump the fire Ins policies cause they had their asses handed to them three years in a row from the Nor Cal fires. Couldn't have happened to a better company.
Don't trust them any further than you can throw them!!! Money talks and BS walks!!

The only reason I'am still with SF Ins because SIL who is an Ins. broker says I won't find the discounts at any other Ins. Co. because I've been with SF for so long.
As far as our SF agent? Worthless!! Only time I've seen him is when I told SF to STUFF IT and I jumped his S**T for not saying something BEFORE it went as far as it did. Loves getting the premiums while sitting on his butt and doing nothing. You know DAMN WELL the notice had crossed his desk and he didn't say JACK?? . Like I said, WORTHLESS!!
One more nail in their coffin? Picked up a 38 Chevy street rod. Figured I'd get it insured thru SF like the rest of my cars. Was told it would have to be insured at the same rate as my other vehicles? The 38 gets driven maybe 200 miles a year so it should be rated different?
Showed them the car, took pictures and was told to come back after 6 months to get it re rated? 6 months went by, no pictures to be found and they didn't know anything about it. WTF???
One call to an Ins. Co. that covers rods, pictures sent and I got a bill for $105.00 for 6 months ,full coverage with a loss value of $30K. State Farm sucks, BIG TIME!!

I'll add that SF is more expensive than others but, lost a windshield when out of town. SF said get it fixed and have them call me. Same when I tagged a deer about 1/4 mile from home. SF says get an estimate. Told them that it was going to (our) body shop. I just happened to work for an Auto Repair/Body Shop/AAA Towing business and they have a direct like to SF. Even got my deductible covered. You get what you pay for.
I'm guessing your house is in disrepair... more than a little. Read your insurance policy under the Duties/Responsibilities section. You have a duty to maintain your house. Insurance companies don't insure rot or a lack of maintenance. If you had a claim and they denied something because of rot, you'd be upset. At least them attempting to cancel you is them telling you before you kept paying them with the assumption that you have coverage. Be thankful they were upfront with you.

See? 2 sides to every story.

Just an update on my situation. 2 vehicles are with USAA. Saved $350 a year on each one. My company truck is going to Farm Bureau. Again about $350 less than NW. My homeowners will probably go to Farm Bureau. Again cheaper. Have a meeting tomorrow with the agent to discuss the best way to increase coverage on personal items. My watches exceed the limit. We would have gone with FB two years ago but were in the middle of a claim for Hurricane Florence. We'll keep our home owners with a local agent who understands wind and hail coverage.

Glad things are working out. I had my fill of state farm 30 plus years ago. The best insurance we have ever had was with Horace Mann. Only available to school teachers. but they got scared after the year we had all the hurricanes in one year and raised rates.

State Farm anti gun, but their investigators are licensed to carry? Does sound a lot like the Democratic party. The left push right now is to make it inconvenient, expensive, impractical to execute your 2nd amendment right. Also why we on the right have been deemed domestic terrorists.
