Recommended 40 S&W guns?

I came across alot of 40 cal ammo.. enough to justify buying a gun for it, and I have dies to load it anyways.

This would be a tinkering toy, just fun, plink, red dot, shoot shit kinda deal... what 40 cal firearm would yall get? I'm thinking about a quarter circle 10 carbine, or a 10mm Smith and Wesson revolver...

the carbine would be fun, glock mags, red dot, plinker...

The revolver would give me the option to load and shoot 10mm as well, could hunt with a 10mm if I wanted, wouldn't burn through ammo as fast... revolver would last longer...

Carbines $2300+-, revolver is $1000+-

The answer is both. But Santa aint got enough money to buy both plus other stuff I want..

I picked up a glock 23 plus two KKM match barrels in .357sig and 9mm, so I can shoot any of the three rounds. The 9mm conversion barrel works fine with 9mm mags, but it really does need other mods (e.g., extractor) if the use case will be mission critical. The .40s&w and .357sig work fine and feed flawlessly.

My coworker & i noticed the same thing last weekend.
He put money down on a S&W Shield.

He also ordered dies this week. I gave him about 3,000 cases.
I got rid of my 40 S&W the other year, and i'm pretty well set for 9mm & 45ACP.

Buy the handgun! Just me, but if I’m going to carry a rifle, I want to shoot a rifle round. I did buy a little Ruger carbine in 44 Magnum but it’s...well...a 44 MAGNUM!!!!

Much easier to retrieve the brass with a revolver, and the cases not dented or full of dirt.

If you don't want the large N frame S&W you can get a Ruger in the GP-100 sized frame.

40 S&W was the first semi pistol I bought, S&W 99.

Soon after an HK USP, a 22C, later a Sig Pro 2340.

Then I discovered I could buy drop-in barrels for 357SIG but they’re a pain to reload with their short neck & limited bullets selection.

I traded the USP awhile back, still have the HK-brand 357SIG barrel & a couple of mags.

I have built a few pistol cal AR 15. I really enjoy shooting them. All are DI and shoot great. 1st was a 45 acp with grease gun mags and with my can is very quiet. My son liked it so much he built one in 45 win mag. He has killed a couple of deer and a few hogs. I built a 9mm one and i built 2 wild cats based on the 9mm win mag case.
The glock mag lowers are the way to go. I have been thinking of getting a large frame glock mag lower and moving all the parts over on my 45 ar then i can share the mags with my g 41.
Down side to a DI ar is lead bullets are not to friendly to the gas system.

I would go for the QC-10. I have a Hypoint in .40 S&W with a C-More and it is a blast to shoot.

Glock 40. 10mm, 6" bbl. Lot of fun to shoot up to 100 yds with a red dot.

I am a .40 cal committer. So have a 40 S&W P250, so one die set, two primers, one or two powders, one or two bullets, and I have both covered.

I would LOVE a PCC in 10mm, but the only one I can find worth a darn is the CMMG at almost $2k. Too rich for me when a 300 blk can be had for 1/2 the price.

Maybe a good idea is to decide what kind of shooting you will be doing to start off, then select the gun best suited for your needs. You can always add another gun for another type of shooting. I bought a 40 cal FNH Compact because it was not a Glock. I enjoy it and find it to be accurate. Revolver would be too slow for me. I bought a blow back AR 45 pistol and it just doesn't do anything for me. Heavy, large, boring except when suppressed.


If you decide to go with a semi auto carbine, check out Macon Armory He sells uppers that use the DI bolt instead of blow back bolts (blow back is HEAVY). In looking through his site, it appears he sells mainly 45 acp, but I think I have seen 10mm uppers there before. He is pretty diligent and timely in replying to emails.

Double stack 1911, this has only been on my radar a couple months. If I find one in my price range, its a done deal.

The 40 has a solid amount of energy, fun on the steel.

I bought an older Ruger. 40 carbine as I have a lot of .40 I was issued. I'd like to have a good 1911 in .40 otherwise I'll take a SW MP .40.

Carbine has a lousy trigger but with a good red dot or 1-4 scope it will be a good shooter.
