Tack driver

Hal,

I dont believe one has been posted. I think Jim has been slammed but I do know that the top shooters used PPCs except for one who was shooting his 30WW.

Hope this helps!

Josh

Was there a equipment and caliber list for the Tack driver shoot ?

Hal
Seems like Jim said he didn't keep an equipment list, but I may be mistaken. I observed mostly 6 PPCs. I am aware of several 30 BRs, one 22 PPC, one 220 Beggs, a couple of 300 WSMs one 223 and one SKS 7.62x39. I'm thinking there may have been one or two 6.5 Creedmores. I think the majority were short range group shooters, a lesser number of score shooters from both IBS & UBR and a fewer number from NBRSA. There were, at least a few long range shooters. I think there were more 6 PPCs than any other chambering. Maybe someone will correct me on some or all of this and if so I won't be bothered, but I think I'm close.

Gotta get more score shooters out this next year

Funny how people who weren’t even there want to come up with excuses for why they would’ve lost. I shot the only 6 Dasher in the field. 103 Vaportrail, pre loaded from a 330yd tune developed 1200 miles from Orangeburg and my only handicap was my lack of short range shooting knowledge. #windflagsmatterat330

I was a little surprised at the bra and br I thought they would shine at this distance
There is a reason the PPC, is the PPC. I love the 6BRX and shoot it from 100 to a 1000 in various matches, but 300 and in, the PPC rules unless only score is involved then 30 BR will compete with it or rule over it. We shoot a match here in Central Pa at 400 yds where wind flags are used but there is a sight in period about 15 minutes before the match and no sighters after that. I have won it with a PPC and with the BRX, it seems to be an interesting mix between the short and long range. Rifles are so specialzed it is tough to create a mixed format.

I'll second that on the #windflagsmatter. I shot a 6bra that was fully capable, other than I had no clue what to do in those conditions. We've got a year to learn :)

I think you should re-do that hashtag to say #windflagsmatterateverydistance
Bart proved theyre needed at long distance too! The more info you have the more informed you are. Even watching a windflag in your backyard noting patterns and how long it takes to repeat will help immensely

meh, maybe. The 600yd game is a pretty intense mental game as it is let alone trying to decipher 600 yards worth of wind. I mean it’s hard enough for me to remember which target I shot first and/or how many I put on a target. Probably just cause me a bunch of DQ’s.

One or two out there somewhere might not hurt though.

If there is an advantage shooting a 6ppc at 300, then the best ppc shooters have an advantage. It looks like the scales tip in favor of long range shooters somewhere between three hundred and 600. Giving the long range guys an advantage is no better than giving an advantage to the short range shooters. What distance takes out the cartridge advantage for a ppc v a 6bra/6 dasher etc and place them on relatively equal footing?

I wasn't there but from all I've heard, the conditions were tough and the winners were the ones that managed the conditions best. If it was about the cartridge, the high bc long range guns had an advantage, already. In reality, the tougher the conditions are, the more the shooter comes into it. From what I can tell, the most important thing learned here is to watch the flags and to work your sighters. This is where the short range guys shine.

I’ve talked to shooters on both sides (short vs long range). The universal theme is everyone identified things they need to work on for next year. I think it’s cool that long and short range guys shot the same competition. Most short range guys have never been in the parking of a long range match and the same can be said long range guys and short range matches.

Now that the dust has settled everyone knows what they are up against and have a year to get tuned and practiced up!
