DIY tracer for .22lr

I'm thinking that would entail pulling the bullet and reseating and crimping it. Sounds perilous with a rimfire?

From their web info:

Our tracer ammunition uses a hollow based bullet that contains a pyrotechnic composition similar to a flare. When fired , the smokeless powder in the cartridge ignites the tracer composition. They are non corrosive and will not harm your barrel or firearm.

At about 50 cents a shot for ready made, making your own sounds futile.

Piney Mountain uses CCI ammo. I am quite sure they don’t pull the bullet. Looks like they simply dip the bullet tip in a mixture. Wish I knew the recipe too!
The coloration on the bullet noses is only a marker to denote the fact that they are tracers and the tracer color (red or green). The actual tracer mixture is in the hollow base.

Military tracer ammo also uses bullet nose colors to indicate purpose.

Yes, I agree. We need to know in what composition we need to dip out bullet in.

That makes sense. They must buy the primed 22LR cases from CCI and load their own charge and tracer bullet.
I bought a couple boxes last year to play with. Cool novelty, but that’s about it.

You cannot buy them overhere. It's just nice to see it a few times in your life
