The 17 HMR seems to be available in abundant supplies at most any sporting goods store or farm/ranch store. By paying attention to sale ads it usually be found for $8.99 per box. I have a good supply on hand but whenever I see it at $8.99 I pick up a box or two just to keep my supply built up.
I fought getting a 17 HMR for years but finally broke down and bought one a couple of years ago, after using it for two years on ground squirrels I wish I had bought one sooner. It is the perfect ground squirrel caliber for 75 - 150 yd shooting.
I use the Hornady 17 gr V-Max and 5-shot groups will hold inside an inch at 100 yds.
