Butch's Bore Shine

I did a search. It was from 2010 and only had one direct answerer before it wondered.

So, can you leave Butch's in the bore for an extended period of time? Say,, 30 min., an hour.
Who has firsthand experience? The directions don't say either way.

It does not state anything on the bottle directions about a time limit.
I have left it in the bore for hours with no ill effects.

I wouldnt. And be sure to get it off everything. Itll rust stainless barrels if you leave the dribble under the muzzle

Which is really interesting given they say to run some wet patches with it before storing the firearm. It rusted the chamber on my Savage.

Butch's works really well. Back when that stuff came out I called the company and talked with Butch (?). He explained that ammonia itself wouldn't affect a barrel, but when combined with certain other things then it would. Butch's has ammonia but not the additives that make it bad for a barrel. I tried leaving it on the outside of a couple stainless barrels and after a week there was no sign it had even been there. Some years later I began using Montana Extreme which seems to be more powerful.

I bought some bbs just this weekend and only tried it on some hard carbon. It didn’t seem to touch the hard carbon on my muzzle device. I’ll try it in the bore later. Powerful smell to it.

That's good news because I always suspected the ammonia in Butch's could cause problems if left over time.

I really like the BoreTech products, but prefer to use Butch's when breaking in barrels as it's faster when cleaning new bore copper in my experience.

If it hurts barrels I would not have one usable barrel in my inventory. I always leave them with one wet patch before putting awa.
I use nothing but Butches in my competition Rifles.

Butch's is one thing , many other products are not to be left in bores... If you're not sure ask or Google it... Some will do damage if left in the bore.. I don't leave products in the bore for long periods , I simply re apply if necessary...

Ill put my caveat out there- butchs is the ONLY bore cleaner i recommend you leave in for an overnite soak

Butch's is all I use for cleaning. You can certainly leave it in over night or a bit longer w/o issue.

When I'm done cleaning, my barrels get a wet patch of original Hoppes #9.
