"Out Dated" .308 Win

Was at a private range this morning talking to a fellow shooter about a new 308 I am having built. When a younger shooter stated "That cartridge is out dated, you are wasting your money." To which I replied "Really?". Was then informed the 6 Creedmoor is where its at. Well, had one of my other "outdated" 308's on the bench. I offered to set two 300 yd F Class targets at 300 for a friendly wager. My outdated 308 vs his 6 Needmoor for $1.00 a point difference for 10 rounds. He looked at me for a long moment and said "I better not, you probably know how to shoot that thing." Been cracking up all day over "OUT DATED".

I guess if you have a Creedmore you need to know how to shoot it.......

There used to be a guy that posted here that owned a gun shop and did repairs and maybe even built a rifle every once in a while. Had some informed consumer come in and order a 6.5 Creedmoor and when he picked it up he told the gun owner that he would never win the local matches again. Owner/member asked why is that? New Creedmoor shooter says cause I have a Creedmoor and I will be winning from here on out. Owner/member goes to the next match with the least likely rifle he owned to shoot the match. a 223. Owner/member still won. Everyone says its Creedmoor bashing. No its bashing someone who thinks he is the only one that can read and believes all the BS printed about them and actually has no clue how to shoot. If I didn't already own several 260 Remington's i would be all over one. I was shooting with some friends and we had a bunch of 22s and the big range was open to 300 yds only, so we shoot on the 50yd range. a group from the next county north cam down and was shooting and the one guy had a 7mm Rem and was shooting about 5 inch groups at 50yds. When we checked targets he says wow you guys really shoot good. He wasn't a smart ass, just learning. I have way more respect for that type than the know it all , i bought something that will out shoot you and you are just to stupid to understand.

Actually got told this in a forum not more than 20 mins ago....was assured I was wrong.

"I have both in configurations from Precision-hunting-tactical, and the 6.5CM in crazily inherently more accurate in every configuration than the .308s."

I have/shoot both; they're both stupid accurate once tuned. It's just the attitude of some that makes me hesitant to admit I like shooting my CM.

That's ok Mike, you young whippersnappers can get away with it.

I was not trying to bash the creedmoor. I have a 6 Creedmoor and it is one of my favorite long range coyote guns. I just found it absolutely hilarious that this youngster (probably in his late 20's) felt the need to school me on the 'error' of my ways.

If the .308 is so out dated and so much of an under dog these days I'd be willing to take a few wagers with that young guy at 100 and 500 yds. just to make it interesting. I own both calibers and would not go blindly to that (bright) light.

I wouldn’t take that wager with you and any of the rifles you shoot, Bill.... I know better

I went shooting (Why I don’t know) with the husband of a friend. He was criticizing my having a Ruger No. 1 in 405 Winchester, obsolete cartridge no repeat shots, iron sights.
For a target we put out a 5 gallon on a post at 150 yards. He brought an AR, shot first, two magazines 60 rounds and the bucket was still on the post. I shot once, bucket goes flying. I tell him, "I will reset the target while you are reloading magazines."

. Funny how many, now days, will say something like that about the 308, 30-06, 270 and a couple others and how they just won't kill anything and without one of the new super delux turbo mags, you can't kill anything. I just grin and go on my way..

Sometimes, when I shoot my 45/70 around friends, I carry a 500 grain bullet in my pocket to show them.;)

But, but... that's what all the ex-spurts said!!! I saw a YT video where some keyboard commando was reviewing the M1A. He said that of course he selected the 6.5 Creedmoor variant, since .308 is obsolete and all... That was as far as I got, so I couldn't tell you what his ultimate conclusion was.
