Massive gun prohibitions today in Canada

It's a very sad day here in the Great White North. Our Liberal government and Prime Minister Trudeau announced a list of 1500 firearms that are now prohibited. Many of these were already listed as restricted which entail a special license, having the gun registered, only allowed to be fired at an approved range, special license to be able to transport from your house to the range, to a gunsmith or to the police station, only by a direct route of travel with it locked and in a locked case. ( all hand guns have these same rules )

The list of prohibited guns includes essentially all center fire semi-auto rifles: Bushmaster, AR15 or any variant, Ruger Mini14 etc. etc.

Also included is any gun that creates more than 10,000 joules of energy (7,400 foot pounds). The target here are .50 cal rifles, but also includes many big game rifles: 460 Weatherby, many of the Nitro Express, etc.

This was done in the name of safety, and was pushed through using a Order In Council, which is a way to bypass any parliamentary debate or democratic process. With the stroke of a pen it is done.

There is a 2 year amnesty period which the government is using to come up with a buy-back program. This is more like theft in my opinion, using tax dollars to pay for something that people have legally owned for decades. Grrrr. It sounds like you may have the option to keep the gun under a grandfather clause, but it can never see the light of day, simply a safe queen.

I feel we are on a downward slope here. Our Liberal government, lead by fancy socks Trudeau is headed towards a UN / globalist doom.

Sorry for the long post, I needed to vent.

Heard that this morning. Terrible news and of course Canada is now out of all competitions that involve those firearms. There is a propensity to punish the innocent for the acts of the guilty the world over. Perhaps when your people get into office you can repeal all laws which did not have public debate associated with them. If the stroke of a pen can create them, the stroke of a pen can repeel them. At that point a public debate which makes it illegal to pass laws with the stroke of a pen can be added to your Constitution, with proper public debate and all due process of course.

C'mon Down.......There is plenty of room and real health care.....;)

Regards
Rick

Oh, it has crossed my mind plenty. There is a bit of a growing movement, especially here in Alberta, to separate from Canada, possibly with 2 or 3 other provinces. Perhaps to create a sovereign nation, or join the US. Mon-berta might be fine with me! (I'm 1 hour North of the Montana border now)

For myself Montana, Wyoming, riding my Harley in the Dakotas, maybe Texas? Lots of good options.

Quebec has been whining about separation for a couple of decades. They can stay up there for all I care but Alberta and others who support gun rights and freedom of speech should start making a bunch more noise with the Liberal Socialist up there.

Very many more mass shootings in the states and we will be next. Lots of people on the fence and Canada just stepped up the game. A few people I have talked to about it said they would consider the same thing ok here in the states if it came down to it. These are older people in our shooting club that have been to war and have been around guns their whole life but would approve banning automatic rifles. I think the damage and the fallout is trickling down and when it tips the pot were in trouble.

So many people think of firearms as a recreational activity. Too many dont realize the deeper meaning behind guns. Personal responsibility, self governance, and the easiest to understand protection of ones property . Just to many people dont think past their own noses.

Think about how much easier the lumber contracts would be if you all joined up with the U.S. :D

Quebec has done very well being the squeaky wheel. They have become a 'have not' province that receives billions in subsidies every year. Alberta has paid out nearly 100B over the past 5 years, and Quebec has received 90B. (approx) Now when our oil price is at an all time low ($2/ barrel recently!!), and yet Alberta still has to pay out, even though we are totally broke. GRRRRRR!

We're very lucky here with Trump at the reins. Sorry to hear!

And that is the problem south of the border. Too many people have forgotten that they own the government and they are more than willing to have their employee's better armed than they are.

Perhaps those of us in fly-over country can align with Alberta and their fly-over provinces to form a new country. No Nufies allowed though... just kidding about that last part. I like the Nufies. :)
