You get what you voted for, and who voted were also who you let into the country. The U.S. is and will take the same path, as more Californians, New Yorkers(and immigrants) leave their car_ holes, and move into conservative areas with small populations. School boards, local governments, and judges(county and town representatives) swing away from traditional beliefs and activities and no longer reflect the values of the community. A constitutional republic protects individuals from government, that's why the democrats(socialists and communists) have been attacking the constitution, weakening it when ever possible through the courts. Perfect example the governor's who have extended or enacted stay at home orders when those actions were either not required or needed. It is for the left, the ultimate test of the GREEN NEW DEAL.
Control public assembly and speech.
Government says who can work and when and how.
Where and when you can travel.
The individual citizen isn't smart enough to "protect" themselves, only the government can that's what democrats believe. Whether from disease or criminal activities the government is the savior. The real answer is elect representatives that will represent you while following their oath of office.

Exactly! Several "we're very fortunate here in the US" comments in this thread while we are possibly/probably one election away from the same thing here. Just like the bump stock ban whether you think it was reasonable or extreme I don't care and I don't care or want to debate that but my point it was done with the stroke of a pen without warning, debate or a vote!

With this move, the federal government has lost any right to expect co-operation on any front, in my opinion. The Prime Minister brings shame to every Canadian every time he opens his mouth or shows his face. From dancing in gay parades to misappropriation of funds to just wasting taxpayer's money, he's worse each time he makes a move. Read where some of our Canadian brothers would like to move south. Be careful what you wish for. We are in our own battle for our rights. If you are not a parasite or a fungus, I would happily welcome you here, but like you we are in our own fight for our rights. Just ask the Texans, or people Colorado and Montana. The Communists (Democrats) are on the march every where. By coming here you may be jumping from the frying pan into the fire. My love of shooting started with a pellet gun, on my Grandfather's farm and today I am passing the love on to my Grandkids. I get the feeling many in my county view me as evil. I'm just an average law abiding joe, who would rather just go on minding his own business. Sadly I see the future as civil war or rubber cubicles and sporks for all. I believe there are 400+ million legal guns in the US, but as a gun owner, I am starting to feel like an oppressed person. I vote, am an NRA member, and speak to others regarding my hobby. Doing a lot of soul searching about what to do, when that day comes, for me.

Realize that this has nothing to do with safety. Don't believe the rhetoric. they use safety and mass shootings to justify their gungrabbing but clearly that isn't the intent. Look at the rifle they will let you keep as a safe queen but it can't be used. Letting you keep it in your safe makes it clear they aren't worried about you committing a crime with it. they actually know they can trust legal gun owners.

Canada does not have a second amendment equiv so its surprising it has taken this long to ban what gun rights you had (which was minimal). Really sorry to hear this happened to the good folks. Is a 460wby being used in crimes really an issue?

The 460 has never been used in a crime I'm quite certain, nor has the AR15 acutally (not in a mass shooting for sure, possibly small crimes, though not many - you certainly don't hear about it up here).

Anything that produces more than 10,000 Joules / 7400 foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle, I think those 2 are under that, others certainly aren't - 460 Weatherby, .50 cal obviously (this is the one they were targeting).

I'm somewhat familiar with what you are going through, it is mentioned in the media hear often. The parallels we have are incredible, our Prime Minister is unbelievably unqualified for running a country, as is the cabinet he chose, he was so proud to announce that he chose 50% men and 50% women, qualifications were secondary to sex. GRRR.

I believe I read that an NZ they are coming after tube fed lever actions now, because of that large ammo capacity? And semi-auto shot guns?

Exactly, we are experiencing much of this as well. I forgot to mention that there were TWO WEBSITES BANNED as well?! Seriously? The scary thing is this is Trudeaus second term! He is letting illegal immigrants (we're supposed to call them irregular immigrants) up from the US continuously, even now while the border is closed, putting them up in hotels and all the medical, dental you can imagine, along with about $50K / year for a family.

The list goes on and on.

Even my 33 xc is over with most loads. Not sure what they would do about it if you claim you're loading to 7450 ft lbs.

No plans to move to canada so not a big deal. Are there any significant ELR matches in Canada? Probably gonna have to move south if so.

Just look at what has happened in my adopted, and loved since 1965 state of Virginia. The anti liberty politicians are laying the ground work for a full frontal assault on firearms in the next legislative session. The mantra they are now pushing from the governor down is that semi-auto firearms are not protected by the Second Amendment.

Only 40-42% of registered voters voted in the last Virginia general election. No sweeping changes will be possible until the 2021 election cycle.

Another part of this that I haven't mentioned, for fear of the potential backlash and being called a racist, let me assure you I am not. The indigenous people are exempt from these bans, so they may continue to use semi-automatic guns for hunting, even though the government has been preaching non stop that semi-automatic guns aren't used for hunting.

It is a wedge issue where the gov't is once again pitting us one against the other.

Strange because this group of people (indigenous) recently shut down our entire rail system across the county with blockades and protests, because the felt they weren't being adequately compensated for a pipeline that was going through their territory. This lasted weeks, no charges or gov't interference to shut them down.

Thanks Jerry, I didn't know that. Yes, they will be using SAAMI numbers, so loading down won't be an option.
I'm not sure about ELR matches, I'm nowhere near that level.

I'm no expert but just did a quick saami search and didn't find any of the 3 cartridges. Lawmakers are generally ignorant of wildcats, even widely used one. Now if your wildcat is based on a banned brass, then you'll be in trouble. For example a 50 bmg wildcat will stall have brass stamped "50 BmG" so that will be a problem. However, you can probably get by with cartridges with headstamps not listed in saami---of course eventually saami will list many of them.

As a natural-born Canadian (and US citizen), and after reading all the above posts, I'll just add that I left my dear homeland in BC in 1975 to return to the U.S. and enjoy my dual citizenship, as these are the exact reasons I left Canada.....absolutely no representation in government, draconian gun laws including no handguns.

I decided just to NOT put up with the crap they were dreaming up then, and it's even worse now. So I packed up and left, period. I could not use any of my US veteran benefits there, so that was yet another reason to bail. I've never looked back, especially when I open my safe and gaze upon my rifle and handgun collection that would not be able to exist if I had stayed in Canada.

In fact we don't have rights the way Americans do. Property rights, and especially guns are not a right here. In fact all guns are illegal, we may possess them with the proper licensing only. Every gun owners name and status is monitored continually in a monitoring program for crimes etc that may lead to your guns being taken away.

Zero333 above is correct, we have no castle law. If you were to shoot someone on your property you will be immediately charged, then spend your life savings to prove that it was warranted, then you may be acquitted. As has been the case close to me very recently, you may then be handed a civil suit from the criminal.

Another problem here is that a large portion of our population lives in a select few cities in Ontario and Quebec. They seem to drive too much of what happens across the entire country, though our needs are vastly different.

Things are getting worse and worse here, quickly.

That is what is called a democracy (Mob Rules) meaning if the whole country wanted less gun laws them mob rules. In a constitutional republic we have the electoral college which governs votes so everyone has the same clout. Here in the states most call us a democracy which is a misnomer at best. The electoral college system stops what is happening to your country.
