22rf "trainers' ...what do they really train?

I didn't do that.

I actually have more 22rf in the safe than CF guns. They are the most fun I have at the range. I compete with them regualrly in numerous disciplines. MY current project is a 22rf F - class gun. It will run me about $4,000.

I asked a question about their usefulness for one particular thing - CF training.

A more careful reading of my posts might be helpful. :)

Truth....And I do agree with some of your thoughts.

Here is a little postal match that I devised to compete against myself and my shooting partner 1300 miles away. Downloaded this target from this site. The object is to cut the dot cleanly leaving no black. You get 1shot per dot. As you can see by the pic I shot 20%. This is very challenging and fun all at the same time. The distance is 50’.

If you want to learn trigger control try bullseye pistol
One hand 3.5 LBS trigger pull, 1.5" x-ring at 50 yards is all about trigger control

Many shooters don't appreciate the value of dry firing.
Was at a regional pistol match and the Marine Corp team was there and gave
an impromptu seminar. A question was asked about dry firing.
Four hours per day. Was the answer.

Best improvement for offhand rifle was shooting bullseye pistol. 5" sight radius is a tough gig!
Accept your wobble and be smooth on the trigger!

In IR50/50 that concept of what you are doing is call Ten Shot!

What is IR50/50?

Lloyd,

One shot for each numbered bull.. touch the dot and it is a X.. best edge scoring..

Ten Shot is only the dot! If you do not get the dot.... it is a miss and no points.. If the bullet goes through the center of the bull and the plug sees no light anywhere around it.. it is a 10, take the dot out.. it is a 6 and if you touch the dot.. it is a 4

I am guilty of that.

Or...maybe I should say.... am I not guilty of that...?

Not sure, really.... anyway, no, I dont' shoot sling. :)
Back in about 2006 I got a suppressed 22lr. I bet u I shot 15 bricks of ammo thru that thing that first year.

Oddly Everytime I picked up my center-fire I was dead on. All that fun time playing with that suppressed 22 had helped my hand eye coordination and trigger control. Something I thought I was already good at, had become even better.

Shooting improves shooting.

That there is the answer to your question..22rf trainers..what do they train

So a $300 22rf can do that as good as a $3000 22rf trainer.

Right?

No ?

Then what *specifically* does the 22 rim fire trainer train?

What we've already covered:

1. There are better ways to train trigger pull and follow through.

2. Recoil, external ballistics, trajectory, speed, ballistic coefficient , Reading wind are all significantly different rf vs. cf.

3. 22 rim fire are good for training sling and youth... neither of which apply to me.

The biggest advantage to a Rimfire is accessibility to more shooting. It facilitates less time reloading, allows for shooting at shorter ranges or indoors. It also saves barrel wear and tear which means when you get the chance to shoot the big gun, it’s not at the shop being worked on. If 22 trainers (or smallbore rifles as they were known before PRS graced us with its presence) were useless then there wouldn’t have been so damn many of them built over the years. Think about it....52’s, 37’s, 40x, BSA’s, and so many others were built. They gave marksmen (civilian and military) the ability to train (and compete) in more accessible venues.
