Shooting Bench Portable Stool

Hello all,

Does anyone bring there own portable stool to the range? I am vertically challenged and the stools that are provided at my range are just too tall for me, and they all have seen better days. Most are either old bar stools or old office chairs that no longer adjust. I was just wondering if anyone brings there own and where did you get them. I see Sinclair makes one but I was hoping to find something a little cheaper if possible.

Thanks,

Jon

TrxR,
Thank you, these are exactly what I was looking for. I found one on Amazon for $33 shipped that I am going to try.

That Gibraltar sure is a nice throne, if I like how this cheaper one works out I will definitely think about getting one of these.

Thanks again,
Jon

Do a search on amazon.com for "adjustable height stools." The one I use is a pneumatic, adjustable-height stool, round cushioned seat with no back, and 5-legs for stable secure contact with the ground surface.

Works exceptionally well for me . . .

SteveW,

Do you use one with wheels? I found some on Amazon that look nice but looks like they all have wheels. Is having wheels all that bad? I'm not sure myself that is why I ask before I buy lol.

Thanks,
Jon

I highly recommend staying away from a wheeled version.
I tried one once and it was to moveable to suit me.
The stools I sold came from a medical company and
had the stationary glides. LDS

Wow, thanks guys all good info. I think i'm leaning towards the drum throne, nice padded seat, adjustable height and it folds up nicely.
Although I do like the screw adjustment on the one X-47B listed.

I tried the cheap Drummer's Thrones and even at 175 pounds I had to modify them to get them to stay set for height. Finally went to a real music store and bought a good one with a very comfortable seat and a threaded, elevation adjustment, that when set, stays set. Much more expensive, but the same , you get what you pay for.

Ok, now you all have me thinking. I'm now leaning towards the Gibraltar 9608 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000B6DU3C/?tag=accuratescom-20

These can be had for about $100 with free shipping

I'm pushing 200lbs so something sturdy is needed, I am also on the shorter side (yes i am round) and I want something that packs up. I really like the threaded adjustment too, it just looks more solid.

The Mike Ezell seat looks more like a chair, might be good but I think I want more of a stool type.

I have changed my mind three times since I first posted this so I will give it another day or two before buying lol.

Thanks again for all the ideas,
Jon

You only want a stool with wheels if you are shooting a heavy recoiling rifle so that your shoulder doesn't have to take the full force of recoil.:D

I have one in the shed its nice, but for a shooting bench its just to short.

Thanks for all the ideas, I just put in an order for the Gibraltar 9608. Looks to have the features I am looking for after all the help from you guys.

Most of the wheeled chairs can have the wheels left off to just set the legs on the ground. Those with 5-6 "legs" are pretty stable and won't rock as you change your positioning. Screw type adjustment is better than the hydraulic. Hydraulics have a tendency to "bleed off" while you are sitting on them. I have a "Manicurist" stool the I used at my loading bench and really like it for comfort and mobility, but I have to adjust it several times in the course of my loading sessions because of that bleed-off.

You can also replace the wheels with glides to gain more height.

I ended up going with the Gibraltar 9608 and got to give it a try a few days ago. What a difference, money well spent. Thanks again to everyone for pointing me in the right direction.
