Shooting stool

I use a 50-60's vintage steel adjusto stool and it works great. Got it on ebay for $100. There are still some on there for sale. Anything you buy nowdays will not last, these Adjusto stools made in the 50's will still be working when what you buy today from China breaks.

I am what you would call Vertically Challenged so this Gibraltar drummers seat has been one of the better cheaper investments that improved my shooting skills. That and the seats at my local club are mostly old retired bar stools or kitchen chairs that are all at odd heights and wobbly as heck. The drummers throne is very solid.

As mentioned before, I have this same throne. It is absolutely well made, seat is thick cushioned but firm enough to be solid while being comfortable for long periods. 20” is it’s lowest height if that works with the OP’s bench setup.

I use a doctor stool and love it... I use it around the house also.... Rolls easy , adjustable height and very padded.... I can't recommend it enough but they like most nice things are not cheap....

I’m so sick of shooting off the shitty chairs, benches and cinder block makeshift stools we have at our club. We are finally ready to break down and buy a stool we can travel to the club with for benchrest shooting. Is there a “chair / stool of choice”?
Also, what is the proper adjustable height range for a shooting stool?
Dave
check eBay for a Gibraltar drum throne, I got mine for 50ish$, over 200 new! great shooting tool, good luck sir

As stated sometimes you can find them for a deal on eBay. Get the hydraulic adjustable stool. I have had one sitting on my deck for 3 years. The hydraulics still work fine and the seat looks like new although it gets wet when it rains.

There are a lot of really good drummer thrones on the market. I purchased a Roc -n- Soc with a spindle adjustable seat. The hydraulic thrones are great as long as you don’t mind replacing it sometime down the road. Pretty much, they will all eventually fail. Now, if it’s 30+ years from now, who would really care. But 5 years from now??? I got a backrest addition for my ailing back. I didn’t get rollers on the legs as most every site that I have been at has rocks, pebbles, dirt, grooves, ext….. I don’t need to flip over and have another back operation. So, that was my thinking on why I got the one that I did. I believe a good adjustable seat will help me shoot better. I don’t know about others, but if I’m not comfortable, I don’t concentrate as well.16B29B35-62B6-4E88-ACD2-BFC173C7DC02.jpeg

You cant get a better stool than the sinclair stool. Go to a big match and thats about all there is on the line. A good drummers throne comes in second. They fold up a bit but are harder to adjust and most cost more- especially the comfy ones

Never had a pneumatic-adjust chair's mechanism last more than ~3yrs. Am sitting on one right now that's got a failing pneumatic, and it's less than 2yrs old. Par for the course, in my experience.

If I were to do a personal shooting seat, I'd absolutely opt for a corkscrew adjustable variant.

At 20-28” adjustable, does that seat meet the needs of most benches? I’m not sure what the height of most shooting benches are.
In 15 years of use and more ranges than I can count I've never ran out of adjustment. My guess is that if you are of average height you'll be fine. Most bench heights are pretty close and the stool is easily adjusted for height if you need to. It's lightyears better than being uncomfortable and wondering how big of splinter someone is going to pull out of your cheek after trying to shoot some good targets. ;) JME. WD

With the help of a friend, we built a shooting bench at our camp and the stool was a repurposed shop stool.
The seat was broken so I replaced it with some plywood, it originally had a back rest that I removed and used the bracket to make a hanger under the table to keep the stool out of the weather.

If you can see in the pic, the seat will screw up and down for height adjustment, it has lasted several years and has made a pretty good fanny prop.

I have that same Roc-Soc that I bought in 2003 and still using it today without a single issue.

At our 1000 yard br events I see the bigger guys using the ‘roc um’ spin adjustable at $200 ish, I use a $100 Yamaha drummers throne.
I really don’t see the Sinclair type beyond the local short range stuff. I wouldn’t opt for plastic anyway but that’s just me.

I have been thru 2 drummer stools, they died. My 25 yr old Sinclair is still trucking along.

Agree 110%. Have used one for years. 5 legs for stability, pneumatic up and down, soft seat. Top comes off for more compact storage and transport.
