22lr bolt rifle

I have an urge to buy a 22 rifle. I have a match 10/22, but have been toying around getting a bolt gun.

I hate to use the phrase “do-all”, but I’m looking for a mid weight rifle for off hand, prone and bench.
Prefer wood/laminate, have a mix of 22lr on hand, 15-20,000. Would want to shoot these up before jumping to Eley or other match ammo.
Shooting range is 25-200 yards. No matches, just practice and friendly competition.
I fell for a Vudoo with a wood stock on Guns America, but $2600? Too much!
Looked at Tikka, Sako, Browning, CZ.
Just found Lithgow. That sounds almost perfect, until I read about the issues with chambers and mags.
Accuracy- I would like the ability to shoot one hole groups at 25 yards, 1/2” or under at 50, and 1” at 100 with good ammo and the shooter having a good day.

so, if you were to recommend a 22 rifle with a smooth bolt and trigger, very accurate but light enough to hunt and shoot offhand with, what would it be?

thanks,

Terry

Terry,
You might want to check these out before you pull the trigger about buying anything. I think these will use the Ruger rotary mags.

Thanks. I forgot about that one. Sub MOA sounds great, street price $650 ish? But watching the video, it looked like there was gravel in the action. Would love to handle one. Looks good, light weight too.

also I think Bergera has one too.

Zermatt has a new RimX action which might be worth checking out. Looks like it's good competition for the Vudoo.

I like my Vudoo but an Annie is a lot of fun.

The Ranger looks like it would be a very good deal, also looking at the SAKO Quad Varmint. The thoughts of buying a 17HMR barrel down the road is interesting, but twice the money. I’m reading Quad accuracy is very good, is this correct?

A Remington 541T fits your requirements perfectly, handling, accuracy and price. Discontinued now, but there's still some around. I've got one new in the box I've considered selling for years, just don't shoot it. My two custom 10-22's get all the rat patch work for the fast followup shots; not a criteria for you though.

Been mentioned already, but you may want to look at the lower level Annies.

Haven't seen the Ranger 22 before. I like the 10/22 mags and the Remington trigger, lots of options there. I also like the aluminium receiver for weight, especially for silhouette, just not sure yet if any smith can put in a barrel or how it attaches.

The other video I saw on youtube had a much smoother operating bolt. Their promotion video does make it seem like its clunky.

Depends on your price range. I have Sako Quad, Sako P94S Finnfire, a Kimber SVT & Kimber HS. All shoot very well & have .17 HM2 barrels for both of the Sako's that also shoot great. But all since all are discontinued - you will need to find a nice used one. With that said, my gun for pest control is a CZ 455 sporter with a 3x9 scope, night light & CCI SV ammo.. It is handy & deadly out to about 75 yards. I am much less worried about scratching it up than the others. I also have a Rem. 540X that is ridiculously accurate from a bench - but too heavy & cumbersome to be carrying around hunting. You may want to start viewing Rimfire Central forum. Lot's of good information on rimfire rifles on that site. Nothing wrong with an Anschutz or Rem. 541 either. Good luck in your search.

Thanks TH, sounds like you are into the 22s. I would love a Sako, may end up with a Tikka. My LGS was pushing me in the direction of a Cz455 with an adjustable wood stock. He went to show me one of two, and both had sold. Guess that’s a good sign.

Maybe look for a used Anschutz MODEL 141. light enough to carry all day and shoot offhand - but quite accurate

The cheap Ruger American is a lot of rifle for the money. Their triggers can be made superb. Mine shoots 3/4 " at 50 yards with cheap Federal HP ammo. Need to try it with some target ammo

+1 Bought the lowest price model(8321) in 22WMR at Cabelas a couple of months before the Bass Pro acquisition for $180. Change of trigger return spring lightened trigger pull to 1.5 lbs. At 60 yds. rifle shoots 0.9 to 1.0 MOA with the Hornady 30 gr. V-Max load or the Remington 33 gr. tipped load.

I'll second the 541T. Bought one of these about 4 years ago used and it out shoots my 10/22's and 77/22's easily. Its amazingly accurate for just an out of the box .22 bolt action rifle.

Thanks all. I’ll look into the 541T more. Right now leaning towards Sako or Steyr.
Any personal opinions on the Zep 2? I really like the looks of it.

I have an old Beretta made back in the late 50's i think. Anyway it's most accurate and wood and perfect bore. Called the olympia. Google it !. 10 shot magazine $250. Plus $25. Shipping. It's old school match grade.
