Its offical I'm a RSO

We have been having so many issues with nuts shooting up our ranges the club has decided to make a select few of us RSO's. Club is paying for everything and took the course this past Saturday and now waiting for NRA credentials. The club has also put me in charge of running this years 300 yard matches and I'm looking forward to that as I have made some big changes and had the hours extended to incorporate the changes. Club is also wanting us RSO's to police the range when ever we are there and check for membership status to make sure these people belong there and stop shooting up the place.

Congratulations, I think. If your club has a long history of members doing whatever they like, you and the other RSO's will have your work cut out for you. In the long run, it will make going to the range a lot more pleasant for everyone but that 10%.

Signed
BTDT.

I mostly shoot at a State run range. I recently answered a request for volunteers to take the NRA course in order to add Range Officers up there. Course is free. I am at the range at least twice a week already so it will present no hardship for me. We are in desperate need of RO's there.

Give m hell !

A good friend of mine took the course with me and he went to the range yesterday and found some jackass's shooting big rocks they got from the creek and placed on top of the pistol berm! When he seen that he called a cease fire and walked over and threw the rocks back in the creek and called them all idiots, they didn't see the problem?? Fools....

Got my RSO card last year, but have been unofficially doing the job for many years. I operate on the principal that a "soft answer turns away wrath". Matches are easy, the job becomes thankless on the average non event days.

If the "fools" still have range privileges, you haven't changed a thing.

We can only stop the foolishness not kick out the fools, that job belongs to the board and all we do is submit info and names if we can get them. Cameras coming soon should put a stop to the BS.

If you don't have SOLID backing by the board, the fools will keep on keeping on.
How many people in this country have thieves and vandals destroying their property, on camera, that never get caught?

One of the clubs I belong to has suffered severe range and club house damage over the years so they installed electronic surveillance equipment about 3 years and it has been somewhat effective.

Also, you must post your membership card when using the range. No trespassing signs are posted warning that trespassers will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

There is random surveillance by the trustees and range committee members that also helps. More than one offender has been escorted off the property by the local police and charged with trespassing.

Like you I also was recruited by the DNR to RSO a public range. Found most people will abide to the rules and your suggestions along the safety and common sense lines.
You do need full backing buy your club or State.

I once needed to call the DNR on some people that just would not listen (12 in all). After the DNR and Sheriff showed up 50% of the people left the shooting range (not the ones I was concern with LOL).

It really helps if you have a written SOP with you and posted at the range so someone cannot say your full of Sh*t...

Good luck...
