Charge master accuracy

I am currently using a chargemaster and have an autotrickler on order.
Was wondering if a charge is thrown on a chargemaster and then weighed on the a&d scale do they usually weigh the same or will i have to adjust my charge? I will test for myself when it comes in just curious what others have found.

This has been my practice for 3 years now. I throw my powder on a charge master, then to an AnD scale then trickle with an older dandy trickler. You will have to add to or take away 60-70% of the time. The auto throw came out after I bought my scale. But would definitely go that route now. There are about as many opinions on this subject as stars in the sky but it’s worked for me. Hope I’ve answered your questions.

I have the Hornady Autoloader and set it for 1/10 grain less, then trickle up on an A&D FX. The Hornady unit is not accurate enough for precision by itself. I tested it with 30 loads, a couple times it went over without an alarm and once showing an overcharge when it was right on. I've never used the Chargemaster but if possible, you should run a some test charges and check them on a more precision scale to see how close it is. This shows an varience of as much as .28 grain with no warning.

I did not have to adjust my charge weights when I made the move to a FX120i. They both “agree” on the weight of a charge.
The big difference is the consistency between charges, my CM would have hiccups.

That is the display resolution, not the scale accuracy. This test:

shows Eric was able to achieve 0.04 gr accuracy from his Chargemaster.

Do your research to learn how to tune the charger parameters and install a smaller diameter tip on the dispensing tube and you can achieve +/- .05. The key is slow, smooth trickling with no vibration during that time; this is the requirement for any and all systems. A high price scale cannot correct poor trickling.

last time I checked mine, throwing the complete charge with my chargemaster and verifying with a gem pro 250, I had an extreme spread of 0.12grs with most falling inside 0.06grs. I also modified the program so that it threw 30 grains in about 15 seconds with no over charges (registering over the set charge on the rcbs scale). That’s good enough for me in short range.

That has been my experience also. The Chargemaster can be made to be very accurate. I still bought a A&D though

That is what i was hoping for. The reason for getting the auto trickler was for better consistency.

I had a lot of variance with my Chargemaster. I added a rechargeable 12 volt battery to eliminate line voltage fluctuations and it improved dramatically.

When setting up the Chargemaster, I use a trued 10-10 beam scale. From time to time, I recheck to make sure it is still running true. I also eliminated florescent lights in my reloading room.

Keep in mind, that a change in room temperature will affect the Chargemaster also.

seems pretty high. Did all of these read 30.0 in the RCBS scale?

I did 20 and verifying on my gem pro I saw as high as 30.08 and as low as 29.96. The gem pro is no A&D 120 though.

all were within .1 except for the second throw which is what RCBS claims for the CM. I have been using the CM to throw then tricking to within .02 recently, several hundred rounds worth, and this has been pretty much the norm. My gut feeling was that most were within .04 with a few out in left field high or low. This just sort of confirmed that. I was using Varget, which is my go to powder for 30 BR, a finer grained powder could produce more consistent results. Also I could have "bumped" the spout when removing the pan on that second throw without realizing it. Sometimes that happens in normal reloading. I like my CM, and have found it far superior to a normal throw for throwing then adjusting to charge. I can throw, then hand trickle/adjust on the A&D to within .02 gns about two rounds per minute using it. My hand trickling is just that, I keep a small dish of powder and add or take away a pinch. You would be surprised how accurate you can pinch with a bit of practice

Thanks to everybody for the replys. I get consistent readings on my chargemaster with only a few overthrows just didn't know how close and consistent a certain grain reading was when checked on a better scale. I like the rcbs just looking to get the most consistent ammo that i can for f class.

not on as issued charge master and lite;
claiming a chargemaster will do .05 when really it is a custom tuned and modified tool is a dis-service to any potential buyer.
speak simple English..not a chargemaster, but a custom tool. oh and the claimed accuracy cannot be verified on the tool, you need to spend another $500 for that tool.

You should be able to easily keep the Chargemaster reading 30.0 on every throw if thats what it was set to. I adjusted the program and used a mcdonalds straw. Since you're using your A&D and trickling, it really isnt that important to you. I just dont want people to think thats all the RCBS is capable of.
