6GT — New Cartridge, Alpha Brass

Rl16 is what Tommy's been running and it does seem like the perfect match. He still has not had a lot of time with it I don't think. It did win him a relay at the 1K nats with a 3" in LG, so its showing potential.

Nothing will blow the BRA out if the water. The case is not the limiting factor. Unless it’s beyond 1000 yards or wind is blowing 30mph
Hey 22Dasher, If you read the rest of the thread,You will see what i'm talking about. It's right there again. In almost exactly the same words.

I'm thinking the 6 GT would make a great long range coyote rifle with an 87 V-max cruising at warp speed. A 22 GT would also be quite interesting with a heavy weight tipped bullet. Something to consider. :D:D

I am hopeful someone can lead me to where a thorough report has been made on Alpha brass casings. Its a blank needs filling in. I know I have missed it, but if any have a link how it compares to Lapua I`d love to read it.

Well a quick internet search provided enough info that lets me know Alpha brass is very good stuff.

Does the 6BRA hold any 10-shot records yet, or are they still 6Dasher & 300WSM?

The 6GT looks appealing to me for a 10-shot caliber, PRC, FClass, and hunting.

I wouldnt be looking at the gt to out agg a BRA for Br. The reason we tried the BRA in the first place is to reduce case capacity of the dasher. With the amount of records in such short time with relatively few shooters using the BRA, theres no doubt in my mind it will out agg the larger cases with the 105 class of bullet. I have only chambered one gt in a Br rifle so far, and its shooting quite well with 103s but I think it would shine with a heavier bullet in BR, but there are not many options for heavy 6mms other than factory bullets.
When we went to school at Williamsport, Jason (my mentor) said the big cartridges that I liked (6Super LR, 6.5X47Lap) had too much powder to shoot real tight at 1000 (from memory now). But reducing from the Dasher to the BRA leaves .100" of unexplored territory, so I don't see how the 6BRA can be declared the ultimate ......... Maybe a 6BRA+.025 would reduce the present records significantly.

I think all the territory between a Dasher and BRA has been explored over the years. With discrepancies between lots of powder, lots of bullets and lots of brass, weather conditions and a bazillion other variables the bottom line is pretty much everything between a BR and a Dasher shoots well. More probably depends on the tune and shooter of the day.

Im definitely not declaring anything ultimate. Constant improvements are the name of the game. That goes for actions, stocks, barrels, bullets, you name it.

I've been a Dasher fan since getting my 1st one set up & shooting in 2004. Still have & regularly shoot three of them (LR prone, BR, PRS) so it wouldn't hurt my feelings a bit if Lapua would offer Dasher brass, ready to go out of the box. Have been shooting 6x47 Lapua since mid-2006, and still have a couple of them in PRS & prone rifles. Also have three 6XCs. Have a lot of brass for all three of these cartridges, plus good factory & custom dies. When I bought my first lathe & started doing my own bbl work, it always seemed like the sky was the limit; after all, that's one of the reasons I bought it - to be able to experiment with a bunch of the cool cartridge designs I'd read about without having to pay someone else to do it, and wait for months to get a barrel back from them. Now I'm 68yrs old, and shooting PRS has become a bit of a stretch for old joints, tendons, and muscles - but I still like to play & experiment with rifles & cartridges. Have most recently been experimenting with RL16 & S110MKs in my Bighorn TL2-SA Dasher PRS rifle, and thinking that a bit more case capacity would be a good thing for this powder/bullet combination. Maybe the Gay Tiger would have enough added capacity to make it work better (I'm only getting 2780fps with RL16/110MK out of the Dasher's 26" 1-7.5tw bbl), but why screw with it when either the 6x47 or 6XC would surely have all the case capacity that RL16 needs to push the 110s to 2900+fps? I'll admit to experiencing a bit of the old desire that used to send me to the phone to order a new reamer set (like making my own bushing FL sizers on Troy Newlon's die blanks) when I saw the photo comparing the GT to Dasher & 6x47, but I must be getting just a little jaded (not to mention being almost broke after our irrigated soybean crop got the crap hailed-out of it late this summer), because that bit of desire to play with another new cartridge has already faded quite a bit. You guys have fun playing with the latest-greatest little 6mm round - I'm interested in hearing how well it works in something like a Bighorn TL3-SA, as I just finished pulling the Dasher bbl off my TL3 & replacing it with a 6x47 Lapua. Got tired of having to roll the TL3 over on its side to dump an empty Dasher case out that failed to eject completely, and so far, empty 6x47 cases flip right on out of the port, whether I run the bolt as hard as I can or not.

Wonder what was causing that with your TL3? I've got two actions that have been solid with no ejection issues over roughly 10k rounds of 6BRA and Dasher.

/me walks away with my 6xc's shaking my head at new gimmicky 6mm's.
*in old grandpa voice* Ever heard of a 243, whippersnapper? It's still better than all your new fangled XCs and GTs. Ain't nuthin they do better, other than empty your wallet!

To be fair, the 6xc is just a Tubb "gimmick". He marketed a modified 6-250 Savage that had been around for a very long time and created a supply chain to back it up and make it easier for non-wildcatters to adopt. It was hardly revolutionary and does nothing a down-loaded 243 won't do.

Hmm. I could see that possible in a TL2? Don’t see how that’d be possible in a TL3. Maybe an extremely slow bolt open?

I think this cartridge is going to take off with the crowd wanting to get in the 6BR type family of cartridges but without wanting to fireform or buy mag kits. Mostly PRS/NRL/field type shooters with mag fed rifles.

I'm not going to be throwing away my 6BRA for one, and I'm curious to see how it performs in the benchrest world.
