Purpleheart Stock - Finally Got Around To Finishing It Up!

Just some final shaping, sanding and finishing and she's done. I'll bed the action after I have it finished. I'm thrilled with how she turned out. Gonna be a pdog killer!

There's some tongue oil on the scrape piece on the counter just to show the color a little better. I'll do some testing, but leaning towards tongue then numerous coats of marine spar varnish.

Forearm is 3 3/4" wide and 1 1/2" high just in case you were wondering. "Might" bring it down to 3 1/2" to match my other rifle, but at this point I'd hate to mess it up. Just takes one bad cut.

Lookin’ good! You might take that scrap wood and make up some grips for 1911 pistols. Would definitely be different.

Looks good, but you should take a few minutes and finish putting away your Christmas decorations.:)
Not mine. She always leaves a couple Christmas and Halloween decorations around. I don't give her grief about her stuff, so she never bothers me about mine. That's why I get to leave my projects on the granite counter.

"That's why I get to leave my projects on the granite counter. " Glad I'm not the only guy using that space. Mike in ct

A bit off topic, but this seems like the place to ask. Anybody ever make a stock out of Teak wood? I am partial to teak from my days involved in yachts. It is a dense, hard, oily wood. Weathers to a nice grey if not coated.

Just curious.

Now that boating and Harley seasons are over I finally got around to finishing it up. Steel epoxy bedded. Could use a wet sanding, but that can wait. Now it's time to start working up some loads.

Looking good! I hope it shoots a good as it looks.

I let mine dry for several months , wet sanded and then sprayed a couple of coats of very expensive Captains Marine Varnish. Came out sweet!

I like to stop short of that perfect finish on my rifles so that I don't worry about messing it up. If you stop before the final coat, you can use the gun and tell yourself, " I'll fix that up on the final coat" when little things happen. Less stressful that way.

I made one and have it on a Marlin 444.

Around here we take brand new shiny dirt bikes out of the truck and kick em over on their side.
Now that we got that outta the way it's time to go ride!
@sparky123321 looks great!

You will want to consider using a clear coat finish that contains a UV blocker, with some off the best used for boats or cars. Otherwise, purpleheart will "oxidize" from sunlight and go from a vibrant purple to a nondescript dark purple black brown.

I'd love to see it, but your PhotoBucket images are all blurry. I have used purple heart to make a guitar neck, once, and it is harder than chine arithmetic.

Purpleheart? I'll have to dig mine out for Veterans day. But yours is a nice looking piece of wood.
