Can’t quite understand why one would run sandpaper down their $500 barrel. This does not include the chambering cost. A bottle of Flitz costs about $12. Use it after every match with a nylon brush. 1173 rounds and the bore scope doesn’t lie. Might set it back for next season.

Bingo! Also Stan and I have no control over how many times a shooter does it, how hot the loads are etc....I had one customer that fired 6 rounds and prematurely wore the throat .030"!

David once asked me to endorse the fire lapping kits. I said no. Only way I would do it is if he would cover the warranty on the barrels when a customer complained/had a problem. Guess what.....

Soooooo, just to clarify what you said, you didn't say that Tubb's system doesn't work, you are saying it could have ill effects if MISAPPLIED? Is that what I am reading?

You say you would not "endorse" Tubbs fire lapping system (whatever that means, I have not known David to ask anyone for "endorsement" on anything. I do know that Bartlein made a big deal to announce to the whole world that anyone using Tubb's system "would void their warrantee" or some such thing, and Bartlein is the only company that I know of to make such an announcement).

It seems you have gone out of your way to condemn a system because you think your customers are incapable of using it correctly. Did I read that correctly?

LOL. I think Frank meant exactly what he wrote. Not everyone drinks the Tubb juice. He also DID NOT imply that last phrase you wrote.

Let's let him answer the question.

Tubb juice... interesting. Some of the comments here about David truly perplex me... I've never seen more venom directed at a single person on this board. Every time his name is mentioned. People seen to go out of their way to make some snide comment.

That’ll just be more to misinterpret anyways

Again, I was asking for clarification. I think you are implying something that isn't there.

Frank can explain what he says, if he choses. Which is called a discussion. Everyone can clarify. Except in the case of David Tubb who is not here to comment.

I won't flat out condemn it and here is what I tell guys. If you have a barrel towards the end of it's life or a factory barrel that is really rough then I'll say try it as you got nothing to lose.

If I have a customer with a barrel and for arguments sake in 308win and the thing is a hammer and the barrel only has 300 rounds on it don't do it! If you do it and now the barrel has issues I cannot be held responsible. We have no control over how many times the guy uses the fire lapping kit, how hot the loads are, what grit bullet is used blah blah blah. So you can say it could be user error but I will say this....we get dragged into it. So how do you or anyone else expect us to warranty the barrel? I don't like variables...and now your throwing another variable into the equation.

If your having a problem with one of our barrels I would prefer you call first before you start doing stuff to it and either make the barrel worse and or we end up not being able to figure out what is truly causing the given problem.

Back when the conversation happened on the phone....it was hey I'm going to send you some stuff out. Give it a try, recommend it etc.... etc.... etc.... he called me. I didn't call him. Picture attached and I didn't pay for the stuff. Did I try it? Yep. Did I see any benefits/gain from it. No. The couple of guns I tried them in didn't shoot any better and didn't clean any differently.

If you use it and like it and you are not having any issues and are comfortable in using it and your not wrecking anything per say....I've got nothing to say. Again though from what I've seen I cannot say it's the cats meow either and or endorse it.

If it was let's say a cure all....then why isn't any of the ammo/bullet makers using it in the ammunition test barrels? Why isn't anyone in the gov't using it? Maybe one of them are but I cannot think of a single one. That also has to tell me something.

Let's stick with a good barrel and a good gunsmithing job (Alex Wheeler said it best in a previous post).

I see no way it can increase muzzle velocity, or helping it clean better and or extend barrel life. I'll say that's my opinion.

I'll throw Stan under the bus here (no offense Stan) but if another barrel maker comes on and makes the comment to the extent hey we like it as it helps us sell more barrels. Hmmmm I think Stan and I are on the same page. My apologies for throwing you under the bus Stan!

This just seems like a mountain being made out of a molehill.

After speaking to David, I will not speak on his behalf on the subject (he read your comment btw), but you seem like a guy who has gone out of his way to state your opinion on the subject. Repeatedly. An opinion which previously was not indifferent but very adamantly opposed.

@Forum Boss
Thanks for providing an option to ignore mean spirited, snarky, and ill mannered members.

Tough crowd. Frank gave a full, well reasoned explanation of his opinion. Still not satisfied; so attack the person. Classic.

I am not attacking anyone. Like I said this whole thing sounds like a mountain made out of a mole hill. I haven't attacked anyone... that is ridiculous. I've never even used the product and have no opinion on it. I was simply discussing what was posted. People seem to really get passionate about it, for some reason. These discussions happened long before I ever heard of it.

This is an attack on the person. It does not address the substance of his opinion or point out any fallacy in his position.

Of course, you, unlike Frank, can not give any meaningful information based on personal experience because, as you readily admit, have never used the product. WOW

Something is getting lost in the translation, and there doesn't seem to be a resolution.

Frank if you think I attacked you, I apologize. That was not my intention.
