thrill of victory, agony of defeat... teslong endoscope

My 2nd unit came directly from China and took 20 days. My 3rd one (a replacement for the 1st, on which the LED lights crapped out, came directly from China also - but got here in 4 days.
Teslongs customer service has been excellent though.

Once I managed to contact Teslong, they have been very responsive. Great communication. They have already shipped another unit to me via DHL, it's coming from Hong Kong.

I read this thread yesterday. Despite the complete lack of need for a bore scope, at $50 I had to order one. Amazon had the same unit advertised three places from three different sellers. I took the one with one day delivery. Sure enough about 24 hours later the Postal Goddess was at my door with a parcel containing one Teslong Bore Scope.

I have a couple iPads that get used most of the time but also a couple Samsung tablets that I prefer because they have supported a pencil for several generations. Unpacked the Teslong gadget, downloaded their HD App from the Google Play Store and plugged it in. Didn't work. Downloaded the non-HD Version and viola. Really crappy picture. Pulled the cable out and found a spider had built a nest in the 10/22 barrel that I found leaning in the corner. I had the chance to play with the medical endoscope when the local GI center had an open house and the Teslong isn't in that class but it's still darn good. Really glad I sold my Hawkeye.

Pic of the throat in a stainless 10/22 barrel - probably unfired. The yellowish flecks are probably spider poop.

I ordered on Oct. 21, I think it said in stock Oct. 26 but it hasn't shipped yet and now Amazon says in stock Oct. 30 or 31.

It's not a really big deal but I'm anxious to try it out.

Update! Delivery by end of day today! I am anxious to get this thing in my hands. I am trying to diagnose an old 222 Remington that's not been giving me the accuracy I remember from back in the day. I think a chamber cast and an inspection with the scope will help me understand what's going on.

Depending on what I find, I'm thinking this thing may become a 20 caliber of some sort for next year's varmint season.

edit to add; more disappointment. It came while I was at work, and it was a signature required delivery so they didn't leave it. Oh well, another day or two...

Did an inspection on some reloading dies after some recent reloading sessions. Pretty amazed at the amount of brass in the sizing die bushings and copper in the seating stem that you can see with the borescope. I always clean before the next session thank goodness!
I was pretty surprised by how smooth and clean the Dillon 223 carbide die was compared to the Redding competition dies (tons of tooling marks). The Dillon dies stayed way cleaner even with 200x the amount of rounds in the last session.
The scope makes even the smallest things things look far bigger than they appear to the naked eye, so everything probably looks worse than they really are. Great inspection tool.

Same thing happened to me. They finally delivered it today and I couldn't get my computer to download the software. Gonna have one of my kids come over tomorrow and figure it out!

Dr.'s office called and said her part was $275 or so, a savings of $225 if she would let me "operate". She still says NO, HELL NO. :)

If you found any polyps.....she would probably object to Iosso or JB, not to mention if you think you saw carbon . . . wellllll, maybe consider not considering using Butch's or a stiff bronze brush.:eek::D

So that's what those old "tornado" brushes were for! o_O

I couldn’t get mine to run on my old windows 7 computer. Had to have my wife figure it out. One of my buddies who is completely computer illiterate plugged tight into a windows 10 computer and it came on with no downloads.

I tried to reply yesterday evening, but the forum rejected my post, saying it appeared to be spam. Anyway, the delivery guy came back about 6 pm when I was home so I got it. Plugged it in to my Windows 10 laptop and got right down to business.

Looks like I'll be shopping for a barrel. Pretty grim in there.

Well I got it working. Of course since I've never looked down a barrel before it is like watching a Chinese goat roping...interesting but not really sure what I'm watching. I quickly looked down 3 barrels...A 6 mm rem which has been my problem child. A 22-250 that is old, been shot a lot, seldom cleaned, and is a tack driver. And a Rem 700 300Win Mag mag that has been shot very little. I had cleaned the 6mm but the others were fouled. The camera worked great and the picture was very clear. Although I had cleaned the 6mm it needs a lot of work. Carbon build up bad in the first 6-8 inches of the barrel. Muzzle area was pretty clean. The 300 was fine. The 22-250 looked like a rusted fire poker that had been left in the rain. It was fire cracked and had some pitting. The last group I shot with it was 4 in the same hole and 1 about a half inch away. My best group ever. I'm almost afraid to clean it after looking at it-the rust and gunk may be holding it together! Anyhow, I'm gonna clean all three and see how they look. Im especially pleased with the capability to see if my cleaning technique is effective. Based on this short use of the camera I definitely think it was a good purchase.

Update. I cleaned some barrels and inspected with the new camera. The smaller the caliber the better quality picture I got. My 300 WM was not a great pic. Anyhow, I cleaned my 6mm with some JB Bore Paste and got it looking much better. However there were a ton a concentric cracks around the circumference down the entire barrel. I'm assuming this is what people call "fire cracking?" There is still some black fouling in the first 4 inches of the barrel. The rest is pretty clean. Can someone confirm these cracks? Full disclosure here...I am a redneck hunter that has been reloading as a hobby since I was 16. (I'm 55 now). I like to get good accuracy but until I joined this group I was in the dark about precision reloading. I'm not a competition shooter and .5-.75 MOA is completely acceptable to me. This 6mm is the only gun I have that does not meet that criteria consistently. Any comments/advice are appreciated as I have never Bore scoped a barrel before.
Thanks

I’m no expert but I believe that those marks are tooling marks - likely go all the way up the barrel. Have a look at post no 72 on page 4 of the thread - that’s probably an example of fire cracking. Fire cracking usually only runs the first couple inches (or a few more) up the barrel from the chamber end where temps are hottest. I could be wrong.

I think the other thing that we need to keep in mind is that these images are pretty magnified. Have a look at a spec of dust on the mirror vs how it looks on the monitor. Things appear much more than they are - I think that’s why most warn you when you first look down a barrel and think it’s terrible! I’d just look for glaring issues rather than having a spotless interior. Carbon rings, excessive copper build up, leading, etc is what I’m looking for. The target will tell the real story on condition.

Don't forget to focus the mirror for the barrel caliber. Smaller calibers require the mirror to be at the end of the adjustment (all the way out). Larger calibers, more toward the bottom (all the way in.)

How the mirror sits in the barrel, especially a larger caliber barrel, will change the view quality. Just move it around until it finds a happy place and is in good focus.

That is what I want, for it to work in the 20 calibers and for them to come out with a attachment for 17;s. seems from what I hear, the even tho it says 20 cal or larger, it is a no go with 20's, right ?

I had an experience yesterday I thought I'd send along.

I took the first shots on a brand new barrel (Brux .284). Did what I figured was a reasonably good cleaning regimen. Used the Teslong and couldn't see any copper. Felt pretty good about the situation.

Then I put the scope down without the mirror and saw the attached: Clearly copper was there. But I could NOT see it with the mirror. I went back in with the mirror looking extra hard to find it but could not. Yet without the mirror it was there.

So....my learning is moving forward is to have a gander both with and without the mirror.

That is an eye opener ,thanks for the tip...this I could see clearly with the mirror . I took a chance on a used rifle, and lost.

My Teslong arrived today. It took about a week.

What I was really glad about - and I didn't pick up from the misc posted pics - is that the camera can see "beyond" the mirror. So the field of view includes the mirror - to get a closeup of where the lens actually is - but also it can see ahead a bit.

The attached is the best example I have of this. In this pic I think the lens is at the neck of the chamber, and the ledge seen ahead is where freebore begins. I think that's how I'd describe it. Hopefully someone can confirm.

If this looks clean it's because it is. :) The chamber in the pic is unfired. I just got it from the gunsmith on Monday. I can now grab some pics to document when it looked like new.......and see how it progresses as I get rounds downrange with it.

BTW - the little case is no longer included - as per issues described earlier in this thread. There was a tag connected to the scope itself that basically said "You can loop this loosely....but don't wrap it up tightly."

Mine had the tag as well and just came in the square cardboard box
