I’m poor and have to make do as best I can with what i can afford, if it’s Savage, Remington or Tikka etc. I don’t care as long as it shoots well.
I’m sure I’m not the only person either with this opinion.
I see all the impressive 10k rifles at the events and now big $$ hunting rifles and of course if your not buying them from a special smith or whom ever then your not in the click so to speak. Or I’ve heard this one
(you don’t get it) or how bout
(your not a serious competitor) I heard that one recently too.

I’d like to see more regular guys with regular rifles shoot well rather than this huge arms race, now I know the guys selling this stuff say competition drives innovation and I get that too.

I’ll tip my hat to the fellas that can afford it, for myself there’s a limit.
Maybe revise a Remington tuning thread or Savage timing thread or whatever

You can have One of the best gunsmiths in the world spin you up a top dollar action and barrel and put it in a hand made wood stock by an actual master woodworker for half that.

You absolutely don’t need to spend that much money and I don’t mean to imply that you should. Just that I think people overstate how much others have into custom rigs.

The handles are cast. They have used the same mold and the same soldering fixture for many many years. It puts them in the same wrong spot every time

Certain factory rifles can shoot amazingly good. I think good handloading equipment, practices, and components as important as anything else when trying to find top accuracy in any rifle.

I wasnt trying to imply that a factory 700 action "must have" all that work done, just that if a person wanted to get everything working and tuned correctly as the age old design was intended by Remington, it will need a lot of TLC along with a good bit of money.

If a factory rifle can provide the fit, function, and accuracy a person is looking for, then that's great! More power to them.
Lord knows I've owned a few cherry factory rigs over the years that made me question why I ever spent the money building any of my custom rifles

must have misinterpreted your post, thought you couldn’t afford 10k dollar rigs. I’m impressed you hit the mark I bet that’s an awesome setup, most “10k dollar” rifles cost 3-4 from what I’ve seen.

No no No don’t miss understand me
I no way have 10 k into one rifle, however I have eclipsed that mark on my program easily and my program is modest.
I’ll let someone else add their custom rifle setup including scopes and expensive rests custom Bullets and on and on, but keep in mind that when someone says oh yeah mine was only 6 k what’s not being said. And don’t forget you need a light gun a heavy gun and maybe a back up gun.

I did misunderstand you, you just said high $$$ hunting rifles, I thought your 10k figure was per hunting rifle not for an entire BR setup over time. Carry on!

We'll said SPJ you don't how many times I have had my butt handed to me buy someone shooting a savage rifle or a Remington action against all these custom actions.

You can buy a Wolff spring for about $10 or so. I've replace a couple of the standard 24# springs with a 32 pounder!

I put in a 32 lb spring once. It made the bolt lift hard and the accuracy went down. Never again.

For an average everyday rifle I would use a 700 action any day. For custom work it would be a Panda or Bat for sure but everyday use you cant go wrong with a Remington even if it needs a little attention to detail.

Yep! But as they say be wary of the man with one gun.. I’m sure I’ve read that somewhere?

One big consideration is always stocks. On some McMillan stocks unless it is for a Rem 700 or XP action you aren't going to get one of their stocks. Not the end of the world but those McMillans are oh so sweet.
