The handles are cast. They have used the same mold and the same soldering fixture for many many years. It puts them in the same wrong spot every time
And what is their response when you ask them why they don't change it?

Maybe people aren’t telling you the whole story
I know you’re exaggerating your dollar amount, but that 10k number gets thrown around a lot and it isn’t applicable for high end hunting rifles unless they are shooting real H&Hs or rigbys. You can have One of the best gunsmiths in the world spin you up a top dollar action and barrel and put it in a hand made wood stock by an actual master woodworker for half that.
You absolutely don’t need to spend that much money and I don’t mean to imply that you should. Just that I think people overstate how much others have into custom rigs.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ so do II have the receipts lol
AHNo no No don’t miss understand me
I no way have 10 k into one rifle, however I have eclipsed that mark on my program easily and my program is modest.
I’ll let someone else add their custom rifle setup including scopes and expensive rests custom Bullets and on and on, but keep in mind that when someone says oh yeah mine was only 6 k what’s not being said. And don’t forget you need a light gun a heavy gun and maybe a back up gun.
We'll said SPJ you don't how many times I have had my butt handed to me buy someone shooting a savage rifle or a Remington action against all these custom actions.I’ll probably get torched for saying but WTH I’m low on hate mail this month
Me’
I’m poor and have to make do as best I can with what i can afford, if it’s Savage, Remington or Tikka etc. I don’t care as long as it shoots well.
I’m sure I’m not the only person either with this opinion.
I see all the impressive 10k rifles at the events and now big $$ hunting rifles and of course if your not buying them from a special smith or whom ever then your not in the click so to speak. Or I’ve heard this one
(you don’t get it) or how bout
(your not a serious competitor) I heard that one recently too.
I’d like to see more regular guys with regular rifles shoot well rather than this huge arms race, now I know the guys selling this stuff say competition drives innovation and I get that too.
I’ll tip my hat to the fellas that can afford it, for myself there’s a limit.
Maybe revise a Remington tuning thread or Savage timing thread or whatever
Jim
I put in a 32 lb spring once. It made the bolt lift hard and the accuracy went down. Never again. You can buy a Wolff spring for about $10 or so. I've replace a couple of the standard 24# springs with a 32 pounder!
Or like me use a light gun for everything...No no No don’t miss understand me

Yep! But as they say be wary of the man with one gun.. I’m sure I’ve read that somewhere?Your poor like me.one gun light gun....
I havent seen a hv in a long time. Get multiple lv rigs and get em goinOr like me use a light gun for everything...
Having more than one lg would be great, having the spondoola to afford them would be even better....I havent seen a hv in a long time. Get multiple lv rigs and get em goin
http://accu-tig.com/So.... What will you have into the action if you have the bolt timing issue corrected by Dans 40x?
One big consideration is always stocks. On some McMillan stocks unless it is for a Rem 700 or XP action you aren't going to get one of their stocks. Not the end of the world but those McMillans are oh so sweet.
Sometimes a company cant build it right to start with. Theres no reason to think the replacement will be different since the first one evidently met their specs so nothing could be wrongI have four Remington 700's. The bolt cocks the action and they all shoot good. In the process of building my 5th. My only complaint is the trigger on the newer ones. One was made in 1962 and although that trigger has been the subject of law suits and recalls, I never changed mine. That is the best trigger Remington ever made in my estimation.
I am not sure I understand what bolt timing even means. Never heard it mentioned until I joined the forum. I don't think anyone in my circle know what it means. I would think that if you had an action with a faulty bolt, you would call Remington and have it replaced. If you are buying an action, why even accept it if the bolt is faulty. Simply send it back for a replacement.
Sounds like every US car manufacturer to me.Sometimes a company cant build it right to start with. Theres no reason to think the replacement will be different since the first one evidently met their specs so nothing could be wrong
Action tolerances???
So on top of bolt handle extraction timing:
The tenon threads are usually out of whack and need to be chased, receiver face is never square, the trigger timing is always off, poorly machined factory recoil lug needs to be replaced, firing pin raceway contacts the pin and creates inconsistent drag, the firing pin spring is poor quality and should be replaced for faster lock time, the bolt lugs almost never have more than 50% contact on the abutments, etc...
I never said the 700 was a piece of junk, nor did I say they cant make a good base for a very accurate rifle, BUT there is a LOT of room for improvement. Improvements to get it right take time and money![]()
