6GT project/range report

Nobody appreciates experimentation with a new wildcat/cartridge and I enjoy those who do so and their sharing of their experiments with all of us. That being said... This may be the MOST Unnecessary cartridge ever mad. I simply cannot see any need for a cartridge between 6 Dasher and 6x47 Lapua. Professional PRS shooters and many others shoot mag fed dashers with No issues. I have done it myself with no issues. Velocity and pressures won't beat the 6x47 Lapua.. It will use maybe a grain or 2 more powder than the dasher and a few grains less than the Lapua and get right around the same velocity. Again...I much appreciate the findings but I doubt this cartridge is going anywhere.

ADI powders who make Varget and H4350 show RL15 between the two, must be some differing charts out there I guess.

It seems most burn rate charts list R15 slightly faster than Varget. I’ve seen only one chart, and maybe it was ADIs, that lists R15 quite a few “notches” slower than Varget.

I know in the BR based cartridges I’ve shot it in, I end up with pressure a little sooner than where I end up with Varget.

I’d be slightly skeptical of it being between Varget and 4350. I’d think 4320 could maybe be figured “between” the two but even that is pretty close to Varget.

Have you tested this at all?

This GT case seems like it would thrive on R15 if it is in fact between Varget and 4350.

Both my Dasher and 6x47 Lapua shoot the best groups and velocity with H4350. I’d think the GT should perform well with enough of it jammed in there.

Don't know, just going by the ADI site who make Varget and H4350...I run RL15 in my 6BRA, it loves it. I suspect the 6GT will too

Reloder 15 is an excellent powder, that has set many records in mid-range Benchrest competition. But it is more temp sensitive than Varget.

Reloder 16 is much closer to H4350 in burn rate. And RL16 is a completely different formulation than RL15, making RL16 very temperature stable.

Lots of good info here and great write up. Everything I shoot must revolve around Lapua brass. We have seen time and time again that there is no substitute for Lapua Brass. If they make brass for the GT I will own one. If not....well we know how the story ends. I’m sure it will turn out great for GAP. Everything they do, good, bad or ugly sells because of their following.
Couldn't have said it any better!

Been busy the last few weeks to get any more testing done, but did shoot todays steel match and had a 2nd GT built up by Rubicon Precision. I wanted a tighter twist than a 1:7.7 for the heavier bullets so George was kind enough to get me a 1:7 to spin up.

The 108s are running solid @ 2960 with 33.5gn of varget in upper 80s - low 90s degrees. Ran the gun hard on props all day without any feeding issues.

Reamer was purchased from GA Precision and is the same spec as the first rifle.

Specs on 2nd GT

Built by Rubicon Precision in Cool, CA
Impact Precision LH Action
XLR Envy Chassis
Vortex Gen II Razor
Bartlein 1:7 twist
APA Lil Bastard Muzzle Brake
Trigger Tech Diamond

New rig has about 20 rounds down it and is also liking the 33.5gn with 108s ELDM. I'll be focusing more on the 110 to 115 class bullets in 2nd GT.

Broke in the GT 2.0 (1:7 twist) about 2 weeks ago with 25 rounds. Heavy clean the barrel.

Zeroed, shot a practice out to 1K and shot our monthly LR match this last weekend. Sent about a 100 rounds total down range.

I didn't have time to work up a load so I decided to use a load that looked promising in the GT 1.0.

Rolled with 33.9gn of Varget pushing a 112 Barnes Match Burner. Previous numbers said I would be at 2900, but I was closer to 2970 as the barrel broke in. 6.8mils out to 1K.

Notes: Those 112s HAMMER and do pretty freaking good in the wind. A lot of my misses was because I called too much wind vs. not enough.

One thing I am liking about the GT is the consistency from gun to gun so far. The 108 ELDMs with 33.5gn of Varget hammered in GT 1.0 and those same rounds in the GT 2.0 hammered as well.

One thing I loved about my 260 was being able to run the same load from barrel to barrel. I didn't load dev for years running a 260rem. I am hoping that will be the case with the GT

A few pics from this past weekend. I did have some vertical stringing as I am trying to get use to the chassis life. It was night and day vs. my KMW Sentinel. Just not comfy behind my XLR yet.

SDs and ES were decent considering I am running 2 different charge masters at the same time.

In some regards I agree - I know it's in initial testing, but it doesn't really "solve" anything for us shooters IMO. The 6BR family of cartridges seem to shoot 0.5 MOA with single digit SD's no matter what load you stick in them, and the feeding issues have been solved with the variety of mag options and kits available these days. If you want a bit more punch from a 6mm, there's plenty of faster options available there - 6x47, 6mm creedmoor, 6XC, etc.

But more options are always a good thing for us as consumers. I'm certainly not going to complain that there is "too many" options - that's a great problem to have. I admire George's work and efforts in developing new cartridges - even if they are not for me. If it wasn't for people who come up with new cartridges and can bring them out to the mass market, we'd all be shooting .44-40.

Not for me, but may check all the right boxes for someone else.

Keep the updates coming OP, interested to see where this all goes.
