2000 Yards - 6Dasher

That is simply amazing, the Dasher seems to have mystical power almost, it's hard to believe that cartridge has accomplished so much 8)

VERY GREAT READ, LOTS OF GOOD INFORMATION AND EVEN BETTER SHOOTING SIR.
THE MOUNT IS VERY INGENIOUS, AND YOU MAY BE ON TO SOMETHING ($$$) BUT HOW DO YOU KNOW HOW TO ADJUST THE MOUNT TO GET ADDITIONAL ELEVATION? IS THERE A MATHMATICAL CALCULATION? I MAY STEAL THE IDEA ON THE MOUNT TO TEST DRIVE A FEW OF MY BENCH GUNS.
AGAIN- YOU HAVE MY UPMOST RESPECT AND THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO .
PS THEY SAY YOUR THE "DASHER MAN" SO IN REALITY FOR A BENCHREST BUILD LIGHT GUN USING A BARTLEIN 5R 31 IN FINISHED WHAT IS THE REAL LIFE EXPECTANCY OF A DASHER BARRELL, NOT PUSHING IT TOO HARD? HEARD THEY ARE WORSE THAN THE 6.5/284 AND 800 ROUNDS AND SET BACK OR TOAST AND REBARRELL. WHATS THE TRUTH?

To adjust the mount, I compute the desired MOA to Inches for 25 or 100 yards.
Then shoot it at 25 or 100 adjusting the mount to the desired POI in inches. Examples:
50-MOA = 13.09" @25yds <> 52.36" @100yds
100-MOA = 26.18" @25yds <> 104.72" @100yds
150-MOA = 39.27" @25yds <> 157.08" @100yds
I set the mount with the elevation turret near the bottom, so then I have most all the scopes elevation travel to go up as well.

Of all my 6Dasher barrels, the soonest I've set one back was around 1600-rnds, and the longest was at 2800-rnds.
With that said between 1600 to 2800-rounds before I've found the need to set them back.

My best lasting barrel to date (a Bartlein, I call "Old Betsy") I took to +4600 rounds before retiring it from competition use. I set it back 3 times in that span. It won a bunch of wood and was still winning when I retired it.
When I set a barrel back, I take off the threads (about 1") and also cut in a new crown (about 0.025" in).

PS THEY SAY YOUR THE "DASHER MAN".....

To me the "King of Dasher's" and/or "Mr. Dasher" is Richard Schatz.
He is the original deal and has set something like 17 World Records with his Dasher's. If memory serves me right he once set a 6-Target NBRSA-1000 record with a Hart barrel that had like 1800-rounds on it. Richard's success' with his Dasher was the inspiration to me building one back in 2004.

Good Luck
Donovan

Hoping to get my dasher to a mile Sunday, weather permitting...

Inspiration I guess... I usually spot downrange, and watch everyone else hit the plate....

You are good to go with the Dasher.
You will be very competitive with your friend's 260 A.I.

Fun read! Take me with you next time, Donovan (although I suppose the new guy has to be the forward spotter......:))...Drew

Story:
Preset the adjustable mount to 100-MOA at 100yds at my range.
Drove to the location and setup <> James River valley in LaMoure County, ND.
Started out by adding 24 more MOA (124 Total) of Elevation.
And dialed 3-MOA of Left (2.6-MOA for spin drift plus a little for the 6:30 to 7:00 wind).
First shot splashed Right and a little high
Dialed over and fired, impact was behind the board so we figured it went through.
Fired 4 more and drove down. None on, but impacts showed they went over the top but not by much.
Knowing were close we set up the forward spotter - Keith at 200' forward and left - with a car for a barricade.
Drove back and dropped the elevation some and fired <> in the dirt low right (blew dirt on the target board)
8th shot <> dialed up and over <> On - low and right
9th shot <> dialed up and over <> On - center high
Dialed down and ran 5 shots <> results above in pictures
Symmetrical bullet holes that showed good stability

Gun:
6Dasher

Shehane MBR Tooley
NF 12-42x56 BR
Elevation mount - homemade

I had fired my 6Dasher's to 1-mile a few times in past years, and always wanted to stretch it out.
If I do it again, will take it to 2400 or even 2500 and give it a whirl.
What a blast !.!.!....... and don't under estimate a 6Dasher !.!.!

Nice write up and good shooting Donovan! Hope to see you sometime this summer at one shoot or the other. Have a Merry Christmas! Russ Peacock

Problem is if a gopher is out sun bathing and decides to fart in the direction of you bullet flight path, the little 105 grainer will change course and end up in the next county! Lol.

All jokes aside, that group is awesome! Great shooting :)
