speed

Running a 700 .223 with 26" bartlien 7.7 twist and Hornady 75 hpbt bullets in Lapua brass and 205m primers & varget powder. What kind of speed should I be getting out of this. using it for long range steel. These are seated 2.260, the lands are right at 2.281

Case info definitely needed, of course.

But a SWAG would be 3185......am I close?
Somebody will have to do some # crunching once the boiler room is established.

Should it be a 22-250AI, then ohhhh, abt 3777. :-)) but brass life may suffer and of course ymmv.
All in fun Cade, mi Amigo.

Varget isn't going to get your best velocity, it may shoot well for you, but other powders will get you much better velocities.

I'm running a 24" Brux barrel (M24 contour / 1:7 twist) with loads using Lapua brass, 82gr Berger, Br-4 primers, and tested several different powders during load development. My velocity at upper end of my load range is 2,900 - 3,000 fps. XBR 8208 has been my fastest powder that I tested. All loads were on hot side showing minor pressure signs on primer. I did not use Vargat so I can't speak to its performance.

If you are wanting to achieve the 3100 fps rate then you will need to consider re-chambering to .223 AI in order to gain an additional 100-150 fps over standard the standard 223 Remington cartridge.

Side Note: I was speaking with a PRS shooter running a 223AI and he stated that Levergun Evolution was even better than XBR 8208. This was the first I had heard of its application. I bought a couple of pounds, but haven't had a chance to load and test.

3050+ average

Would you be so kind as to suggest said powders, please? Thank you:)
Alliant Power Pro 2000MR, Hodgdon CFE223 and AA2520, for a start. These powders, especially the 2000MR, will yield significantly higher velocities with a 75 grain bullet in a .223 Rem. All three, however, double base powders and, therefore, more sensitive to temperature than Varget.

Shooting 75 gr Bullets in the 223rem the following powders give top velocities...

CFE-223
W-748
H-4895
IMR-4895
Alliant AR-comp
Ramshot Wild Boar
Ramshot Big Game
IMR-3031
BL-C2
Accurate 2520
Accurate 2495

I've gotten ~3050 fps out of my 24" Mossberg MVP with 75 ELD-M's, Shooter's World Match (same as AA2520), Starline Brass, and CCI 450 primers. Same load with 80 SMK's shoots 3014 fps.
