Favorite 6mm BR Loads

30.3 Vhitavouri N140, 108 Bergers. .010" to .020" off the lands. 1 in 8 twist, 30 inch Krieger. throat is about .120". 2890 to 2900 fps mv. work up from 29 grs. the load appears to be grain for grain the same as with Varget. getting better vertical, SD's and ES with the N140
 
I've spent quite a bit of time going through this thread and don't see a load for the Savage 12 benchrest 6BR gun 1:8 twist, I have one coming in a week or 2 and have Varget, Benchrest and H4198 and the SMK 107s. Will be shooting factory class in UBR so where do I go from here? Any help appreciated, just remember it is a true factory gun and not custom so I'm thinking the loads would be lighter, maybe 28-29 GNs Varget?
 
A fellow at our range locked his bolt up with a load of 30.0 Gr of Varget behind a 107 (Remington Action). I've heard that some of the newer lots of Varget are running hot, and this may bear that out. If I were you, I'd start at 28 and work up. CCI450 and Rem7.5 primers both stand pressure pretty well. On the other side of the coin, I had a Remington that got up to 30.4 Gr with no particular pressure issues. It had a very long throat. You just have to work up and see.

I ran into bad pressure with 30.0 GRS Varget about 2 weeks ago with 105's. Real heavy bolt lift, ejector marks ,flat primer. Had to pull them. Berger shows 29.4 Max with 105's. Don't have any data for Sierra but you could call them and see what they say.

Thank you, I thought that sounded like a lot for a factory gun.
 
Wow, guess I am going to have to watch for high pressure on Saturday. 90 degrees predicted. 6MM BR, 30.0 grs of Varget ,105 gr Berger Hybrid. I believe I will keep my ammo in the shade and not load into my chamber before being ready to aim and shoot.

Any signs of pressure when you shot Saturday?

My new Savage 12 will be here today and I'll have to mount scope and get ready for range tomorrow, I think I'll start at 28.1 gn of Varget with the 107s and work up, also going to try some Bartsbullets.com 6mm 68 gn fb.
 
I loaded up a Berger Seating Depth Test for son Savage 12 BR. It has a Brux 29" 1:8 at 29 inches. Nothing spectacular until .040 jump was tried using 105 Berger VLD's. The first 3 went .48 inches and the second set went .180 in.

I loaded Berger 105 Hybrids and did the Berger seating depth test and my rifle had near identical results at .010 jammed and .030 jump. At .070 and.110 jump not near as good. I thought that was weird but hey if it works it works. Gives me two different options to work from. Looking forward to the different test. My rifle shot much better with Varget than H4895 in the seating depth test. Just looked at yours again and that is awesome for 300 yds. Mine was only 100 yds for now. Nice shooting.

Just got done retesting Varget behind the 105 Hybrids. Typical California temp, maybe low 80s at the warmest part of the day. Loaded from 29 to 31 in .5 grain increments. No heavy bolt lift, but a bit of primer impingement around the firing pin at 31. Primers looked nice and rounded, and no marks on the brass. I might be loading further out than you guys; dunno. Most consistent load area was 29, 29.5 and 30 gr. All three shot right around .120" at 100 yds. Have to check a bit lower next time out and see how wide that node actually is.

Bat B action, 26" Krieger 1.25 cylinder, 1 in 7.5" twist, Mcmillan F-class stock, Vortex Golden Eagle, Jewell BR trigger.
