6mm Grinch

Thanks! I'll give V135 a try.

I tried looking on the Vihtavuori website - but nothing on temperature sensitivity - so appreciate the response. I did find a sentence that says V135 "...fit applications similar to IMR4064, Hodgdon H4895 or Accurate 2520."

Does that mean if you have something that works with V135 - one can substitute with H4895? Although it might be "similar" - I'm guessing any accuracy seen with V135 may or may not be realized by switching to H4895? Sorry for the newbie questions.

It boils down to getting out and testing things in your own setup! You'll have to do some testing yourself to see what works best for you.

Both are good powders! So is 8208 as Mike suggested below!

Will give the various powders a try and see what works best for my setup (when it gets completed). A friend has some v135 he never used - so I have some now. I also have H4895 and XBR8208 to try. Thank you again for all the suggestions.

For 1:8 twist

105g Berger VLD 25” 8.5 twist Krieger seated @ .005 before touch Fed205M primers

Powder 8208

29.2g avg. 2875fps E.S 14

29.5g avg. 2915fps E.S 9

29.8g avg. 2950fps E.S 15

Powder Benchmark

29.0g avg. 2857fps E.S 46

29.3g avg. 2895fps E.S 22

29.7g avg. 2920fps E.S 17

The E.S looks better with 8208 here but I had 3 identical pattern groups of 3 shots each @ 100 with 2 in 1 hole, 1 shot high. Guessing it may be my bag technique but the 8208 groups were very ordinary in comparison and maybe need much different seating depth.

Impressive speeds! My go to load with a straight 6 Grendel with 80's was 3,300 fps with Benchmark. I could get about 100fps more but it shot great there and brass life is very good.

This grinch is looking like a good option for 105gr bullets in a small case. Should make a very nice 1000m prone steel banger

I have been working the Grinch with 105's and 80's the last few months and getting some numbers and tuning a bit here and a bit there. These targets were shot Easter weekend at 100 and 200 yds with my 12 twist barrel. The outlier on the 200 target was shot 5 and I guess often happens, but the 4 shots prior to that measure in at about .170". Still there's a bit of info on the targets and I was using CCI450 primers for this run. As soon a I can nail that 5th shot and make the other 8 targets similar I can put my feet up. I haven't put the tuner on yet, but that is next!

can the grinch shoot the light bullets at 100 and 200 yartds as good or better then a ppc useinf
g the 68 grain bullets or for that matter any of them that are used on those ranges for group or score?

Its accuracy capability compared to the PPC is closer than some give it credit for. I have a couple 6 Grendel barrels with 50fb and often shoot my best PPC vs the 6 Grendel using 68 and 80gr bullets. On any given day the Grendels are VERY close or better in a 5 group - 5 shot agg compared the PPC at 100yds, and the difference using 80's through a 12 twist Grendel at 200yds vs the PPC can be a real eye opener. YMMV.

I was in a quite competitive club level match earlier this year where 3 of the top 4 finishers (Out of 23(?) shooters) were shooting 6 Grendels using various makers of 80gr bullets.

Bottom line, I'd say the 6 Grendels are pretty darn close. And in the right hands maybe better. I'd imagine the 6 Grinch would have similar performance. Just my experience with them. WD

Man I can't wait for my 6 Grendel to be licenced. I'm gonna be running 107SMK and 8208 at the start with CCI450s. I have a PPC barrel as well on the rifle but already considering going to a 12T 6 Grendel for 80gr when the PPC is burnt out.
