Long range load development at 100 yards.

Same can be said for 44-44.2, only 6 fps. I'm concerned the lower loads might not be quite hot enough. Somewhat worried 44.8 to 45 getting kind of hot. I've seen some comments that 2630-50 about the right area for the 200.20x.

My current theory is to get the ES and SD down as low as possible with a powder charge that has the speed to do the job then fine tune the grouping with minor changes in seating depth. Bear in mind I have not been doing this stuff for that long and I have already tested and discarded a few theories so take any advice of mine with a grain of salt

Here is a shortcut...

Load up to where you find pressure and back off 2%. You have about an 80% chance of being right on the money, and about a 90% or better chance of being within 0.2 grains of the sweet spot. Then do your seating depth tests.

Just a tecnical question :
if you can choice between a case with LRP or SRP which
option do you suggest whilst starting a load development??
For example a 22-250 , 6XC , 243 Win or 6creed cartridge.

All of mine have large rifle primers. I really couldn't give you an informed answer about the SRP medium capacity cases.

Well, Tubbs did a lot of testing with the 6xc with both and decided on the LRP for his brass selection... I’ve tried both in converted Lapua 308 LRP and SRP into 6xc and didn’t see enough appreciable difference either way...

The latest Gun and Ammo Precicsion Shooter special has a test of exactly the LR vs SR in 3 different calibers. It even went to lengths to show how this changed with 1 through 5 loadings. It was sort of a wash except as noted that if you are shooting a high pressure cartridge than SR is the way to go with a bushed .062 firing pin.

Nice grouping rifle. Ladder is shot at 100yds? If so try to shoot one a longer distance. Groups are to flat to give you a fair assessment.

If I had to pick a node it would be between 45.8 - 46.1 and do a seating depth test.

Good shooting

Powder test shot today, any feedback appreciated

45.5 gave you best velocity variance but your sample set is just 3 observations. Plug the individual readings in here and understand, for a given confidence interval, what the range for Average and SD really is. https://www.autotrickler.com/stats-calculator.html (click on the calculator image). You can also use the calculator to identify whether you can be confident there is a difference between each set of shots. The results might surprise you.

HI Eric

Please have a look at my attached groupings, I am missing something!
Please let me have your comments?
Target was at 300m, windy day!

If you load test at 300m you really need good conditions ie light winds to give yourself the best chance of shooting something readable.. JMHO/E

Hi ,

Just curious (as I went out and shot at 300 a week or so ago and the winds were like 3-8 mph), what do you consider to be light winds. Shooters in different areas may have different ideas of what a light wind condition is ???

Thanks

I would really like to test at 2-5 mph, but we haven't seen much of that lately...

As light as possible, I always set out flags because it’s very rare to have zero wind so with flags I can wait for the drop of or shoot in the steady conditions.. but yeah 2-5 would be ideal and what I’d consider light.
As Mikeeg02 said If winds are steady at say 3-8 and I have flags out I would more than likely come away with some solid info, if it’s switching then I won’t shoot..
