Box Stands for Deer Hunting

Done here, too! Corrugated on the roof, windows are weatherproofed & flip up great...this hut will keeeeeel...

Maybe a bit more accenting with the rattle can, but otherwise ready to hunt!

I see a extension splice in the frame, how did you get that stand up there?

What is an "extension splice"?

The (7) frame/floor stringers are pressure treated 2x4s.
Then, single piece 48" square of pressure treated ply for deck. Then, 2x3" frame on top again.

The 'elevators' capture the 2x4s at each corner, makes for a real solid structure. We used a farm tractor w/forks to pick it up & set it. Pick axed in the 4x4 posts til she sat level, then double braced the legs with 2x4s...

Piece a cake!

Ah ha, that’s the elevators I see. That stand looks good on the field!

Don't take this the wrong way but they're really not hard to beat. At $3,600 for one, I could build 7 as nice. The difference though is buying them already built is hassle-free. You can truly customize a homemade Tower blind. I will agree they are nice blinds.

(24) 2x3"x8'
(8) 2x4"x8'
(4) 4x4"x8'
(2) 4x8' 3/8" ply
(1) 4x8' 1/2" pressure treated ply
(1) 4x4' sheet plexiglass
4 piano hinges (windows)
Hasp, misc. hardware
Two boxes wood screws
Elevators
Lag bolts for legs/ braces
Gallon duck boat paint
(3) rattlecans camo paint
Tube of clear silicon
...scrounge aluminum ladder
...scrounge carpet for floor
...scrounge a comfy office chair

That's our list, and it comes out ~$750, per hut. Not cheap, but a lot less pocket damage than any pre-fab! And, the assembly work is actually a fun 'warm up' in expectation of hunting season! But a bonus that keeps on giving is feeling that sense of pride when you climb up into something you built, yourself. Can't put a dollar value on that!

I think if I had the scratch to drop ~4 G$ on each shooting hut, I'd sooner spend that $$$ on building a real nice wood shop, and crank out our own huts, at will!

My materials were roughly 500.00 with everything except heater, plumbing, light and office chairs. Rough sawn cedar so a little cheaper than treated.

throw out the office chair and get a recliner, that way you can take a nap while others watch,,
Hindsight. Built a floor hatch access door and it's 28x36 just a bit too small for that type chair. These leather high back office chairs are hard to beat for NOT being recliners. They do go back from springs that allow a nice somewhat reclined position. Almost too comfy for a hunting chair. I don't plan on sleeping if I can help it.

I guess if you prop your feet up your alright,as far as watching, thats what kids are for, make them feel important,,

Mike,
Thanks for sharing the interior pictures. Looks very efficient and comfortable. I like it a lot.

Cleaned all glass, threw out the empty propane tanks and vacuumed the floor today. Got it ready for the morning hunt. That tall stand will always be my favorite.
The new one is only 200yds away on the next ridge. Painted the ceiling, put handle and magnets on the door and laid some really nice carpet on the floor. Gave it a final stretch this morning after letting it relax all night.

With Windows like that, you won't miss any movement outside the blind.

Lots of glass keeps you busy in a box stand more than a conventional stand against a tree. 360 view without a big tree behind you.
Just talked to my glass guy, glass has gone way up in price. He’s going to work with me since the 16” size I need for these is a common off-fall for them. I’m using 1/4” clear for toughness and clarity.

I've got full 360° viewing but thru 12" tall windows. They are also tinted with a 2" center strip that's not tinted. Been busted so many times in the past from simply turning or moving in clear windows being caught by deer. The tinted really helps but at the same time tough to see thru in low light. Guess it's called sacrifice. In this case for me, it's worth it. Usually leave one open that faces the most active area.
