quick 6BRA load test

ok my head is getting done in by all this
tried 108 bergers with BR4s and .008 jam at 300m with 2206h/H4895 and .002 neck tension
it just finished raining and there was no wind
started to get heavy.bolt lift at 30.8gr and got worse to 31.2gr which I found funny as I didn' get that with hybrids with the speeds
ok in pic started at 30.4gr to 31gr on top line then 31.2gr on bottom
speeds I wrote down on seperate sheet as target was wet
this 6BRA is doing.my.head in

looks like i got a good day tomorrow to test my 108gr in the 6BRA.. fingers crossed I sort this out..let you know what I find
I put my old 6BRX barrel back on the weekend (1450 rounds on it) . loaded up my 32.9gr (I adjusted load 50 rounds ago as barrel has slowed right down from original load) with 105gr hybrids at .008 jump.
she's still on fire .. came 1st.in my 500m fly 243.03 score .. 1st target I came down 2 clicks from 1st shot up high then back up 1 and settled on that.. last round head wind picked up and didn' picks speeds (10 ring is 1.77 inches across).. good to know I have a back up barrel for my nationals if I don't get this 6BRA sorted

Jump the 108's 10thou and be wary of pressure mate. I had forgotten about the long bearing surface of the 108s as I hadn't shot them for a year and jamming them screwed my cases. Jumping them and backing the load off fixed things, but I'll be backing my load off to 30gr of 2206H as 30.2gr is still moving around 2990. Matt P has been a constant source of good reloading advice for me.

the only.thing I learnt today was my 108gr bergers like .020 jam ..whole test done with 30.6gr of 2206h/H4895 and BR4s at 300 meters
need to retest 30.3gr to 30.7gr at .020 jam then I will fine tune jam

willow my 30.6gr .020 jam was avg 2921, ES 9, SD 6.4
and yes I normally test my seating in .003 increments but wanted to see if something jumped out , which it did

Nice group on the 30.6 load, you're not kidding about it standing out compared to the rest. Nice shooting.

Be great if my Smith could fix piercing the 400s I like the way they shot... my action is a Stolle Panda F Class with standard bolt and firing pin assembly that comes with them, anything I can suggest to my smith to help rectify this problem?

Cheers Rushty
Have your 'smith bush the pin hole and change it to.0625 pin ala GreTan rifles. Greg may have an instructional dvd for that if you need it or PT&G . Can't believe someone there doesn't do that on a regular basis.

just letting you all know whats happened to my 6BRA
i haven't shot it for a few months as i went back to my 6BRX because i couldn't get anything consistent out of my 6BRA and i had out 500m fly nationals coming up
my 6BRX did me great with 1600 rounds down it i came 4th in our 500m fly LG nats and 2nd in the HG and shot 2x national records with it in the HG highest single target score of 60.02 out of a possible 60.05 (was the highest score in 28yr of the fly being shot and i also shot the record smallest group on the same target of 0.844")
i finally got to take it back to gunsmith today so he could have a look down it
well the Krieger HV after only just over 900 rounds it was toast, the 1st 4 inches were cracked up big time, now this barrel has been a bitch to clean from early on in its life and even after heaps of scrubbing and isso it was not clean in that 1st 4 inches, after that was fine
we also checked my Krieger HV 6BRX with now 1700 rounds and it was only cracked in the 1st inch but what cracking was there was no where near as bad as the 6BRA (the 6BRX was spotless and only runs varget)
the 6BRX is now getting its 30inch barrel cut down to 28 and getting re-chambered to 6BRX as its been a ripper of a barrel
i have a brand new Krieger HV 1:8 twist being made into 6BRA again to give it one last try but I'm not sure I'm sold on the faster burning H4895 compared to the varget
but looks like i may of just had a bad barrel but i see people are having problems with keeping their 6BRA's clean with H4895

time will tell i suppose and let you know what happens with the new 6BRA
cheers

You do know you are not required to use H4895 in your BRA right ? ;) Something is wrong there for sure. At 1000 rounds these things still look very good and in most cases the throat has hardly moved. Just got some feedback on one with 2k rounds and the throat has gone .020" but accuracy is still good.

My Panda is cratering the 400 also. I switched to 205Ms or Wolf and all is fine.
I will however send my bolt to Kelbly when the season is over.

400s blanked in my Panda also, but during the short testing with 400s in my first barrel they shot the best, I will revisit them in my new Barrel at lower charge to see if they blank.. A .444” 5 shot group at 400m is hard to ignore.

Wow, what bullet were you shooting?

Berger 105 Huntings, sorted BTO.. I’m shooting a custom 103gn bullet in new Barrel am hoping with lighter bullet and less bearing surface and lower powder charge there will be less pressure and I can get the 400s to work.

I'll be trying the 103gr Copperheads at 500 metres this weekend. 30.4gr of RL15 showed an ES of less than 10 with an SD under 4...so I'm keen to see if a soft jam gets these things humming.
