Another Carbon Cleaning Experience

I like what it does too, but when I mentioned it to my Gunsmith he about had a coronary! He told me to stop using it. "Ruins a barrel!":(

"I personally believe in the use of JB Bore Cleaner... I use it after every yardage. 3 to 5 tight fitting patches with JB will get the powder fouling out... I do a full cleaning before I use JB and also after I use JB, to make certain I've got all the JB out of the barrel. ... Tony Boyer"

Krieger Barrels Inc,: Q&A

Q: Will a paste-type bore cleaner such as J.B. hurt a barrel during cleaning?

A: No. There is nothing that we can find that shows that it will harm the barrelprovided you use a rod guide and refrain from exiting the muzzle.

Instructions received from Krieger along with my Krieger barrel: Break-In and Cleaning, Under Cleaning:

"Abrasive cleaners work well. They do not damage the bore, they clean all types of fouling (copper, powder, lead, plastic), and they have the added advantage of of polishing the throat both in 'break in' and later on when the throat begins to roughen again from the rounds fired. One national champion we know polishes the throats on his rifles every several hundred rounds or so with diamond paste to extend their accuracy life."

I will believe Walt Berger, Tony Boyer and John Krieger.

I tell you what. Take a cotton cloth and some JB paste and try to polish your barrel on the outside. Go at it for a few minutes. I doubt you will even be able to distinguish where you polished. The idea that JB paste is "removing material" is ridiculous to me. It is not rubbing compound, far from it. Try it for yourself!!!

Yup! Me too. I shot some "too long" strings of fire out of my 6.5-47 and .223 Brux barrels. Cleaned them with everything I had. Wipe out with accelerator, Kroil, Seafoam, carb cleaner, Butch's bore shine, Hoppes....I still have Carbon and copper caked on the first 4-5 inches of my bores. I patched them with Butches at the range. Let them soak overnight. Scrubbed. Patched them with Wipe Out for another overnight. Scrubbed. Tried Seafoam for another overnight soak. Still caked, but minor improvement. I finally put them away. I hate to use the JB bore paste, but I see no other solution.:mad::mad:

Josh the Iosso bore paste did not touch this either. Just to clarify, these looked like a series of boulders protruding from the surface so it was easy to observe that nothing was helping vs trying to judge a uniform layer of carbon. Such a severe buildup that I was worried the barrel was ruined, but at the same time thought that such protrusions should be removable with enough abrasion as long as the barrel steel did not suffer in the process. Thinking the penetration ability of the atf:acetone broke the boulders free vs requiring abrasion.

What color would you expect that cotton cloth to become.

Muriatic acid and hydrogen peroxide dissolve copper quickly. Those two mixed together is what is used when removing copper from homemade PCB boards.

The meth heads use anhydrous ammonia to produce methamphetamine. I farm and every spring is a nightmare patrolling the tanks trying to keep the dopers away .

Why would a farm use anhydrous ammonia? And how do the dopers steal gas ammonia? I figured that would be way too deadly, like stealing black mambas. Ive seen em try to steal hydrous ammonia- its in liquid form and is easy to get plus useful for making meth for sure. Ive seen hydrous ammonia used in making fertilizer

Mixed up some eds red after reading this thread and ran it through a thoroughly cleaned barrel (used kroil and patch out with accelerator and a bronze brush till clean patches came out clean) i couldnt believe how much carbon was still in there once the eds red started working. I am an eds red believer. I used it when i first started shooting br but left it for bigger and better brand name cleaners at the advice of some members here. Well boys im here to tell ya its as good if not better than anything ive tried.

They put it in propane tanks out of the big tank from what I understand

I knew they were dumb but man o man that is extreme.
Yeah a guy was caught trying to drill a hole in a tank the size of a school bus at southern states in the town i grew up in, the cops caught him before he succeeded penetrating the tank and killing himself

Thats as bad as the fried guys we used to find in switchyards when they cut the last ground grid connection with 500kv overhead. We found one with a logging chain thrown over a 230kv line to ground it and trip it. His friend said they thought they had enough time to hacksaw the lines before we found the problem. They had no idea there are automatic reclosers on the breakers.
