Credit monitoring service???

Well it happened again. Card info stolen second time in 4 months. The card only used for shooting related purchases online. Been using one of the big "E" credit reporting services protection services. Who would be recommended to provide effective protection. Actually the bank that issued the card caught the issues not the "Ex......" credit reporting agency. On a side note have been extremely cautious with where card has been used and have had no issues until 4 months ago. This CRAP will piss off a good natured guy.

Had it happen twice to me. Last time was over 5 grand. Got it all back but was a real pain in the azz!! Took months & all new bank accounts. Now I have to memorize 4 new account numbers!! GRRRRR!!!! DAM SLIMEBALLS!!!

It doesn't always come from a merchant that you used. I had a Citi card that I haven't used in over a year and was paying off get hacked. It got charged for a lot of computer services from another country. So Citi closed it and sent me a new card, which I never even called the number on the front to activate it ( because I was trying to pay it off ) and someone charged a bunch of Lyft rides on it from chicago some where. I called Citi and told them the new charges weren't mine and that I didn't even activate the card. They said somebody did, and then sent me another new card. So far that one is still good.

Okay, Citi card would be the first one on our Black list

Starting to wonder if the data breach at Equifax is responsible.
could be--in my case they (fraudsters) were able to get my new #s almost as fast as they were changed. they didnt get my other citi card numbers though which they could have seen if the had access to my credit report.

had 2 bad card come through online sales,#1 order shipped did'nt know card was bad until a month later,$250.00 gone never to return,,#2 shipping address in N.C. , billing in FL.
called FL. ,,real nice guy been hacked 3 times in 1 year..very thankful that I took the time to call,.now no more online sales,,must call and deal direct,,we check

I got hit big time about 15 years ago by a "pothead" ( Alaska trooper's word) LOL. Luckily the bank stood by me and we got all our money back. Here's another. I have my CC and debit card with BofA. Since we moved to Virginia our card has been, "comprised" 3 times! Never know where as they don't say. All of a sudden I get a new CC in the mail and that's that.

Years ago I bought airline ticket on line to go visit my daughter. Came back five days later to find $1,200 worth of charges on my card. Went to my bank. The lady was checking things out on her computer when she started laughing uncontrollably. I looked at her with a frown. She says, well, he lives in NYC. I say how do you know?
She says, well, he had pizza delivered to his apartment!! I joined in the laughter then! Money refunded while I sat there! Not Citi!!
Knock knock, FBI !! As we all have heard, criminals ain’t too smart!

I had an order of checks stolen out of the US mail. Caught it immediately and put stops on them, but 6 months later the stops go off unless you remember to renew them. We didn't:mad: and they cashed or bought $18,000 worth of "stuff" not counting the store credit cards opened. Phone calls to merchants didn't help, had video of perps too. Took 3 years and a 3 inch binder full of letters and documents to finally turn off the madness. No one prosecutes these crimes, so there's no down side to committing this fraud. Banks just write off the losses and raise interest rates to compensate.

wow what a pain-- i would have closed the checking account as soon as i found out about the stolen checks. wonder if that would work-- sure cant be to careful

I’ve been hit several times. So far my bank and cc companies have handled to the point that it was a only a minor nuisance for me. There’s never been rhyme or reason to how mine were hit. Some were small low limit cards that I use frequently and some were higher limit cards that are rarely used.

Amazingly, no it wouldn't although the bank suggested that. Of course at the time it became obvious we needed to reorder the checks, we didn't imagine we'd be victims of identity theft 6 months later.

One benefit to the experience is we became very familiar with the scope and detail of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, a law that if you aren't familiar with, you probably should be or will if you suffer identity theft. This Law has teeth, and if debt collectors dare step over the line, and they do all the time, the Feds can hit them hard. One fact of this act is that if an employee of a debt collection company breaks any part of this law, like calling you at all hours and hanging up when you answer the phone ( I had one do this to me) THAT EMPLOYEE and the business are subject to prosecution separately with fines and jail time for each.
