New stock duplicator arrived!

Dont you need to get closer to all the sides of that rig? Looks like youre gonna be doing a lot of reach arounds to get setup but you will keep the dust and noise down- i bet its oh so loud

I did circles around the shop, trying to decide where to put it. This was my only "clear bench area"(after moving stuff) that I have, besides my 5 x 10 work table. I'll try it here. If it doesn't work, it goes on the big table.
:DEar muffs and dust mask!:D The plus to this spot is that it's next to my dust collector. I lost my shop dog to the screaming routers. She's very happy to stay in the house, these days.:(

Good luck Josh, I set mine up years ago and have not used it yet...
Well dang! I wished I knew! I woulda bought yours!:( I don't expect this to do everything. I'm hoping it will do my butts and palm/grip area. I know it won't do the deep mag well.

The only one i had my hands on could duplicate 1911 grips even down to the checkering. I had to make him some more of the tracing tips one time exact match to some end mills. When he spit out a 700 stock it looked like hand checkering and the magwell was perfect inside and out. You may be selling your machine short

I hear you and I'm hopeful, but It looks dicey. The grip is the issue. If I put 1/2" of a 2 7/8" long 1/4" router bit into the router, I'm just hitting the depth I need. Here's a pic of that set up.

I think I might be better served to do some of the inletting using my old methods before I put the stock in the duplicator.

It does appear a little light for wood stocks.
I bought it on the recommendation of a member here that has made a bunch of stocks with this machine and is happy with it. It's a Radarcarve. The guy that sells them talked me out of setting it up with a larger router, saying the higher RPM of the 1 1/4 hp router was better. I'll see if that's true and modify the machine if it isn't. I did get the larger rails and reduced the distance between the support towers, to increase rigidity. This is an experiment. The next level machine was 5 times the price of this one.

Nice,am sure you'll get lots of good service out of it Josh.

Cpl things.....take it for what it's worth?

Some 1/4" copper refrigerant tubing, connected through a mini regulator...and some coiled hose.Fasten the hard line to the router as to direct an airflow of @5# stream of shop air, down through the top of the router. The coil hose flexes enough to travel with it.

The "notion" being, not only are you dramatically increasing the duty cycle of router but.....it's the force side of a down draft dust system.Don't try to pull your DC(dust collection) "up"....get the clean air coming in from the top, preferably putting the operator in a clean stream.Pull the chips N dust out the bttm.

This only scratches the surface meaning, the ideal situation is a "drop box" system. The heavy chips/swarf,stay in a collection box beneath the dupe....we're pulling the fines "off the top".Don't fight mother nature.Let the chips fall.....the dust is at the top of that box so,that's where you put the DC hose.

Thats what i made those tips to match was long shank 2 flute endmills both ball nose and flat. As long as you didnt hog it too much they never deflected. I made the tips from delrin on aluminum shafts. 1/4” shank bits down to well below .125 dia up to 1/2”. He hardly ever used router bits after that

Thanks for that. I can do the air hose. The dust collection is already set up to do like you suggest, tho I can't do the drop box. The intake is at the back lower left.

So where do I get these long 1/4" shank endmills?:)

Never Mind, thanks! I used the Internet!:D Carbide!
