6.5 Creed velocities with 140/142's?

Looking for some real-world velocities others are getting with a Creed and 140/142 family of bullets. I'm seeking feedback from target shooters (F class or sling) as I am a sling shooter, putting 22 rounds downrange per relay, with a 30" barrel. I'm especially interested in those using single base powders/temperature insensitive loads as I shoot in temps from the 30's to the upper 90's here in the Midwest....
Thanks everyone!

Rl-16 also does very well with 140 class bullets in the 6.5 Creedmoor and will easily exceed 2850...but I would keep it at 2850 tops. I got best scores at 2700-2725 when shooting 600yd F class. Rl-16 will take about a grain less H4350 to reach same velocity with a 141.5gr Cauterucio. Precision was a toss-up.

Shooting a 26" barrel BTW.

Tom Mousel just had Alex Wheeler build him a custom 6.5 Creed on a Pierce Titanium action and Rock Creek barrel. Tom was getting some pretty awesome velocities with the 147gr ELD-M. A lot higher than i would have expected. Well over 2900 fps if i remember correctly. Might PM him for some info if he doesn't chime in here. Think he was using one of the new Alliant powders, either 16, 23, or 26

2800-2840 is where most Creeds I have messed with seem to like to run with either the 140VLD or ELD-M. 41-42gr of H4350.

Here is an article which dealt with the ambient temperature question by testing Re-16 against H-4350:

I've been running the 6.5 Creedmoor with 130 grain and 140 grain Match VLDs for a few years. The powder of choice has always been H-4350. That is until we couldn't get it anymore. That's when many of us decided that it was time to start looking for a replacement powder and skip wishing for H4350.

I recently started using Re-16 and was pleasantly surprised at the increase in velocities and the ability to cope with the higher temps that I experience every day. I don't see much of a range but I generally shoot in temps from 80 - 100 routinely.

I started shooting 26" barrels for PRS then moved to the 30+ barrels for F-Class. It's not difficult to work up to the 2900+ fps while still maintaining very reasonable pressure when using the Re-16 powder.

Regards.

R16, H4350, and N160.

When I had a 6.5 Creed (using 140 VLD) I ran 42.4gr H4350...2836 fps in 28" barrel.

I shoot 6.5x47 Lapua now. I now use Viht N550 (yes it's a double base powder). I live in Mississippi and shoot in hot temps. I have not experienced any pressure issues due to heat sensitivity.

My Creed with a 29" barrel and 140 gr hybrids at 2,805 fps using H4350 is very accurate and no problems with pressure. It's about to get a new barrel, however and things will change.

Curious why the change to the 47?

I liked the Creedmoor but I just wanted a 47. So after shooting out my Creedmoor I rebarreled in the 47. My Creedmoor shot well...but my 47 shoots a tad bit better. I don't attribute this to caliber/cartridge design...I just have a better barrel this time.

Interesting article, thaks!

I shot a savage with an off the shelf 28" criterion barrel my first year in f class with H4350 and Berger 140gr Hybrids. At 42.4 gr of powder I had an average velocity of 2815 fps.

Probably don't need more than 26 inches:

What's the advantage of a 28" or 30" barrel with 6.5 Creedmore when velocity peaks at ~24-in barrel? More weight forward for static stability?

Velocity may peak with certain powders like H4350 in the 6.5 Creed in a 24" barrel, but I wouldn't say that a certain barrel length gives peak speed for any caliber in general. You just have to know which powder burn rates suit the barrel length best.

Long barrels really shine when a person wants to use a slower burning powder with heavy for caliber bullets. In shorter barrels, sometimes a case full of slow burning powder won't give a complete burn (depending on how slow of course) so you will not see the velocity advantage over faster powders. But you usually will see the advantage in a longer barrel.

Every 'powder' has a certain point in barrel length where anything longer won't make a difference in speed.
