6.5 Creed velocities with 140/142's?

With 30 inch tube on m y6.5 creedmoor and with lapua brass the 140 grain pill behind 41.5 grains of H4350 I will run at 2820 fps for speed but the load is near max and any more will get pressure signs.. So remember ever gun is different so start low and build up checking for pressure sign....

My mind is wide open. I invite you to cite a powder of your choice, with velocity data for a particular load at both 24 and 28 (or 30) inches of barrel, all else being identical (rifle, cartridge, and ambient conditions, of course. I.e. a barrel chop test.)
Lapua 308 Palma reformed to 6.5 creed. CCI 450 43.7gr RL17 Berger 140 HVLD. 30 deg F to 80 deg F 2,950 FPS..(85 to 95 deg F 2,980 FPS light bolt lift). -10 deg F 2,900 FPS.. Factory Savage M10 Predator Hunter(Max 1) 24" factory barrel. 1/2 moa to slightly better if did my part...I sold that rifle, one I wish I would have kept my buddy just bought one on my recommendation and he loves it. Just as accurate as the one I had. He is shooting factory 143 ELD-X's 2,739 FPS and surprisingly they have been better than 1" groups at 200 yards...Now that good Brass is available a 6.5 creed is my next rifle..
I also ran the same test on H4350 and it was very bad..it has been awhile since I have done it so with out the data saved it was well over 150 FPS over the same temp range as the RL17 as you seen from -10 deg F to 95 deg F 17 only loss/gain 80 FPS. try it for your self and see what you find but H4350 is BS in my real world testing...hell it give 60FPS from 65 deg F in the morning to 85 deg F in the afternoon...Don't believe the BS test it for yourself..

Interesting that the RL17 showed lower velocity spreads... Certainly worth looking into!

Not my experience with H4350 at all. I have worked up loads in the teens and shot it in south TX in the 90s and 100s and it was hitting at 1000 with my velocity data from the teens. When chronoed in the 80s it was only about 10-15fps faster than teens.

well Rob01 I don't doubt that as I feel not all lots of H4350 are the same as well as all lots of RL17 may not be the same..I have 3 1Lbs cans of H4350 all different lots I have only tested two of them and it was not very temp stable at all now I have been threw at least 3 to 4 different lots of RL17 and so far it is quite good but I am always waiting on it to not be..I have two friends shooting RL17 in a 7WSM, 7/08 I have tested it in a 6.5 creed and a 6XC over a several year period and we all have had the same results it has been the most temp stable powder we have ever tested. Now I hear a lot of the opposite how RL17 is temp sensitive. I think people hear stuff and they go with it they never really test it themselves. Like when IMR 8208 came out and it was temp stable with in the ES..BS, I tested in a 6BR(14T) and 60 deg in the morning to 90 deg in the afternoon was over 100 FPS difference..I did find a hot load that worked with a 70SBK and was devastating on Ground Hogs but temp stable absolutely not even close.. This has been my chrony testing in outside temps. It may be completely different for you and it may actually be environmental. I wish more people would actually test things rather then go on what everyone says.
Everyone says RL17 is hard on throats and maybe in comp rifle shooting 20 shot strings it is that I don't know but in a 6XC that has shot mostly 3 and 5 shot groups I have over 1500 round on it and it will still stick .350's at 200 yards and I don't believe it has moved out much at all although I haven't checked it for awhile.

For a particular powder, wouldn't seating the bullet into the lands tend to amplify any temperature sensitivity?

It is different for me over many years and many lots of H4350 in both my Creedmoor and .243. I have been using it since 2004 in both loading and in the factory loads from Hornady from 2008-2012 in the Creedmoor and H4350 has been very temp sensitive for me shooting all over the country. Not sure about your results but my years of using the powder show very different results.
