Cant seem to get the copper out of new Krieger barrel

Ive tried several copper cleaners including Butchs and Montana Extreme. When the going gets tough I get out the KG 12! It is the only thing that will clean my heavy fouling Weatherby Vanguard in 240 Wby. This thing shows visible copper after 3 shots and was litterally impossible to clean until I tried KG 12.

I also use KG12 for copper. It works great and it's fast. However I wish it showed blue. Best to use a borescope with KG12 to know whether all the copper is gone.

It won't happen unless you use a brush . Getting it out without fixing the problem . That won't work unless you don't shoot it .

After all this crap and many other threads like this, nobody has said what causes the copper. I'll bet 99% don't know. How can you address a problem that you have no idea of the cause?

What "causes" the copper? That's easy: Firing bare copper bullets through your barrel. It's impossible for there not to be some copper left behind.

I should have been more specific. How do you get the iosso out?
I use iosso, I patch it out with kroil or boretech c-4, whichever is closer to my reach but wondering if there is an easier way.

I have a few Kriegers, never a problem with copper fouling. What type of brush are you using. If bronze that's the problem.

Stay away from JB, I ruined a barrel with it by using it to much. The pumice is not kind.

I now use Sweets with only a patch and it cleans up pretty quickly. One patch and that usually does it. Do not leave this stuff in your barrel it will ruin it if not cleaned out. I generally use Hoppes after the sweets followed by an oil patch.

I've got a barrel cutoff that has been soaking in Sweets for 20 years. It ain't hurt it. An old wives tale.
I guess Tony Boyer hasn't heard that JB ruins a barrel.

Had many barrels that were easy to keep clean, some not so much. I had a Bartlein last year I called stinky, it would develop a carbon ring in the throat in 30 rounds or so, accuracy hit the ditch. That barrel had to be Iosso'd after every yardage to keep it good, took a roto rooter to get the carbon out when it was first discovered. That barrel is currently a fire forming barrel and still carbons quick, it shot well enough to be fairly competitive for about 1000 rds. Just an average barrel, the four I currently shoot don't require that level of cleaning, to be fair to Bartlein they made them too, but the point is if it takes JB or Iosso to keep one clean enough to be competitive that's what you gotta do. Stinky was at it's very best immediately after being Iosso'd.

I use wet patches of Kroil/Hoppe's (about 10 wet patches) to thoroughly flush out the Iosso. Then a couple dry patches.

Jb has been my friend for years . 500 laps on the chamber . And several hundred on the crown Copper is non existent . Larry

Savage M12 in 204 Ruger and a 6MM BR.

I have been using Wipe Out/Patch Out since new. It does appear to clean it up after several wet Patches. I done have a Bore Scope to check them out.

500 strokes back and forth?

Do you use the popular worn-out brush inside a wrapped patch?

I've always prefered a Parker-Hale jag inside, feeling it gave more even, firm support for the patch wrap. I've not lapped a bore that way, only short-stroked Corbin's to cut through tougher buildup. And also, with slightly looser fitting patch, just to apply Patch-Out. It never made sense to me to use a brush at the core, but with a thinner P-H jag you do need more wraps for a given bore diameter.

Take one that is loose and tighten with the patch . All my work is done before shooting.

I think he means a used brush that fits lightly in the barrel. Then wrap a patch around it. Apply paste and maybe Kroil oil also? The bristles from the brush will come through the patch a little as it is worked back and forth in this process. Helping to loosen up the deposits in the lands and groves
