The first question you need to answer or decide on is; do you want to shoot a caliber that cooks the throat right out of the barrel in 200-300 rounds or do you want to shoot one that arcs the bullet a little but don't burn out the barrel until you are sick of it and ready to get rid of it anyway????????? If you want fantastic ballistics and don't mind changing barrels every couple hundred rounds then go with one of the new rimless magnum smokers. Or even one of the old belted magnums...if you don't want to go thru all that then look at some of the good old standby's...7mm-08, 308, 30-06AI, 280AI, etc. Don't get me wrong...I like and have a few hot dog rifles.,...it's just a matter of if you want and accept the extras that go along with them, like recoil, expense of feeding them, barrel erosion, high dollar brass, etc.
