Turn Your FX-120i into a Prometheus

I am very happy to announce that my new product is now officially released.

It is the Two-Box Chrono ! twoboxchrono.com

This is a unique chronograph designed for extreme precision, intended for long range load development where measuring SD accurately is critical to success. Most chronographs introduce significant random error, but by spacing two microphones 15 feet apart the sensors can detect supersonic velocity to +/- 1 fps precision in any environmental condition. Now you can measure bullet speed just as well as you can weigh out your powder charges to the kernel.

I had the idea for this long before the trickler was invented, back in 2014. Working with Silver Mountain Targets (silvermountaintargets.com), we adapted the microphones and sensing circuit into a two-sensor chronograph, and I have been using it for my own load development since then. I built a handful of prototypes for my shooting buddies but I have always wanted to develop a real product from the concept, but I wanted to wait until I could do it right.

I sincerely appreciate all your support over the last 14 months. The shooting community is incredible and it's thanks to all of you that I've been able to continue on this path.

Congrats Adam, that looks like a neat product. I spent some time with the SMT guys at Lodi and I was impressed with their setup and how it performed during the Nationals. I wish you lots of success with your Two-Box Chrono.

Have any of you used Adam's powder measure on fireball sized cases? How did ES and SD compare to when using an RCBS loadmaster or comparable powder measure?

If you are measuring by weight, Adam's is the best I've seen (if your time is worth anything). I haven't tried a Prometheus but nothing else on the lower end compares.

I know I can't shoot the difference of one kernel of powder either but, I still set up two loading blocks. One with the dead on charges and another for the one kernel over charges. They each end up in separate 50 round Ammo boxs. That way, all the charges in each box are the same.

No more of a hassle & it makes me feel better knowing I tried to remove one more variable...

What are you trying to do to me? Isn't it bad enough that i weight and sort all the cases to the tenth and place them in the loading trays from the heaviest to the lightest and load them in that order, now your saying that i need to place the ones that are spot on into one box and the ones that are .02 over in another box! :D

I keep running out of boxs. There has to be an end to this, somewhere. I think.

Hi Adam,

I read everything about the auto-trickler. Great product.

My question is, did you ever consider connecting the RCBS Chargemaster to the FX-120, i.e, just replacing the scale?

Thanks,
Tony

Incorporating half the Chargemaster would be a tough way to make a low cost product. Even modifying the RCBS trickler was a pain and had lots of issues. I'd rather build from scratch any day than pay to save some design time. I know a lot of engineers try to make use of what exists wherever possible but I've always thought the opposite way.

Just use the chargemaster to drop your load -3 grains & put it on the AND / autotrickler to finish, that's what I do with 2 pans that weigh identical makes things go really quick.

You guys wore me down...

I started working on an auto powder drop.

I took apart a Lee measure and the wheels started spinning. At this point I have an idea that "should" work and as soon as I can get a POC together then I will post a video.

At all costs it will be an UPGRADE to the trickler, and not obsolete anything. I think I have a way it can work without even reprogramming the electronics already out there. Purely an optional add-on.

I think the scoop method would still be faster, but having the CM in the mix I guess it would free up your hands and maybe less mistakes... like forgetting to move the drop tube to the next case...

I seat the bullet while the CM is filling a pan & the Autotrickler the other pan. It takes me around 20 minutes to complete a box of 50 once the brass is primed & expanded. I'm using 3 of the 4 wind shields & the top to the FX120i, just drilled a 1/2" hole in a side glass for the trickler so it limits access for the scoop. It may not be the fastest way but it's lightyears ahead of CM then gempro or Ohaus & tweezers, it took about an hour longer.

Knowing your work I assumed you did not mean "Piece of Crap", but it did take this lowly ex-programmer a while to guess "Proof of Concept" lol.

will this be like Kiba's design, with servos operating the powder drop? That would be amazing.
