Which FX-120i?

I got a 100gram test weight from Amazon for about $5 delivered
not sure you want to trust the calibration of a .02GN scale to a $5 test weight. I cannot imagine being able to polish a test weight to a tight enough tolerance and then sell it "retail" for 5 bucks

I just recently purchased the A&D EJ 123 from Old Will Knot scales and got a test weight for under $10. Yesterday I set the scale up following all the instructions and used the cheapo weight. The scale said it weighed 100 grams right on the nose. I left the scale on for 6 hours and it was still showing 100 grams when I turned it off. Maybe I got lucky with the weight?

I could be mistaken on this, but I believe the better calibration weight is 100g. My understanding is that it’s sort of like using more distance between chronolograph screens.

You can get them at McMaster Carr in various tolerances. (Search for “test weight”) The ones that are just a hair worse than technically required are around $10. The next step up, which is overkill, is around $100. To maintain the higher tolerance one, you need to wear gloves when handling it and get it rechecked periodically. As I said, this is overkill for an Fx-120i.

I’m not sure it matters to be honest. We’re probably splitting hairs. The model with the built in weight seems like a nice feature.

Calibration weights come in approximately 7 different grades. If you are measuring chemicals, drugs or such that require you to know exactly the amount you are weighing then it is worth the cost for a precision weight. However, if you are looking to ensure that your scale is weighing the same each and every time, then a Class 7 weight is more than sufficient. You do not need to pay the additional cost for the certification that goes along with it, unless you are running a lab.
Here is the different classes of weights.
