Pit Safety

My spotters arrived last night. They are firmer than I thought and should hold up very well. Some thought definitely went into these. George made it real easy to figure out where to get replacement too :)
Chris, you will like them a lot. You can even slip a 5" spotter disc onto them for long range sling.

We used Geores spotters last week at the SWN'S. Let me tell you they are awesome. I did not hear of any exploding spotters, and I don't think anyone was hurt with them. We had a few times where a bullet hit the center cross feature of the spotter and it just bent it a little. Just recived 500 of the 1.5" spotters for our club "Valley gun club" in Donna Texas to use for midrange matches. What a great product.

I had one blow up on me it was hit dead center front half spindle was gone. The black paint did not last long when a spotter was shoot through the black point was gone.

George had me shoot some spotters yesterday for him due to some changes in the compound makeup of the spotters. There will be another test done this weekend on 3 new batches he picked up yesterday to see what happens. There is a fine line between having a compound that is soft enough to take many direct hits on the spotter, and hard enough so it will go through the small holes of a .223 shot in a plastic covered backer board.

One spindle was center-punched yesterday that lost the facing spindle, but the back stayed intact. Another spotter had multiple shots punched right next to the spindle to see if it would come apart... and it did not. If you only use cardboard backers for the targets, soft is great. If you are using plastic backers, a little harder compound is needed to easily push the spindle through a small hole. I will try and take my phone with me this weekend to take pictures of the results.

I do enjoy the R&D lab I get to work in now compared to the corporate world I used to work in...:)

I bought some about a year ago. Buy both black and white as I’ve tried a few different kinds of paint and it only takes a few hits to flake it off. Maybe someone out there has found a solution.

We use golf tees in places of the hard plastic spindles. When a golf tee explodes the mass of the flying pieces are lower and don't do the same damage as the plastic ones.
How does a golf tee fit into a 30 caliber hole in a target, and stay there when the target is raised again after marking the shot placement.
