Leupold Scope Ring Fit

Grimstod

Machinist, Designer, and Shooter.
I just ordered these from Leupold and they appear to not fit.image3.JPG The clasp does not sit low enough to fully grab the rail. If I remove the screws and put the clasp in the next groove then they fit perfect. (See photo 2image2.JPG with my hand holding it together.) But then screw holes do not align. Did Leupold put the wrong clasp on these? I did try this on more then one pic rail. Also a Weaver rail. Should I call Leupold?

I had a pair and gave them away. The claw is too short for a MIL Picatinny rail, but work fine with Leupold bases.

The base of the ring is not wide enough. It should sit flat against the pic rail. Even with the clasp in the bottom groove the base of the ring is sitting above the rail.

Thanks lawman but I need the lighter weight aluminum. I will either call Leupold or make another trip to the machine shop to make a custom part. This is my first leupold scope and rings. So far I am not impressed.

I have 2 sets of PRW's and a set of QRW's. I just tried them and they all fit on a Farrell base, a Murphy Precision base, a Warne Tactical base, and EGW base and on a Panda F class pic base. On all of the bases I tried them on, they fit with the clamp in the top notch. Which rail is in the picture?

I like the trump tag.

Ok I went and mounted it. One is a pic rail I made. The other is a weaver rail from BlueGrass and a third one I tried was a mag pull.

I thought I remember reading some place that the true dimensions of a picatinny rail and a Weaver were different. I remember seeing a detailed drawing someplace. Maybe Leupold bases are different also. Wouldn't take much in dimensional differences to make it not work. Matt

Unfortunately, not all manufacturers adhere to the true dimensions, including the ring dimensions, and is reflected in the price.

Talked to them and they said to flip the clasp upside down. I was like its already upside down. Going to call midway USA now. image4.JPG image1.JPG

Grimstod did you try to flip the clasp upside down an put in the lower groove. It seems the hole is offset and flipping the other way will lower the clasp for the bottom groove. Just guessing by looking at the pic. Matt

This is correct...the Picatinny M1913 military rail has even spacing and a slot width of .206", the Weaver style base has the same profile, but slot width is only .180" and not necessarily even spacing.
In the case of this thread as long as the OP's cross bolt/boss in the ring fits in the slot {it should if the base is an M1913, it has to be either smaller or the same} then the ring should go on and fit profile wise.
If he has the smaller Weaver sized .180" cross bolt or boss then the scope and rings should be pushed forward against the front of the bases slot BEFORE you tighten the rings to the bases. Otherwise it will try and could move under recoil.
The only time this combo wont fit is when you have Weaver bases and Picatinny 1913 rings...then the cross bolt or boss wont go into the bases slot.

You mean like this? Ya I talked to Leupold and they said the same thing. But that definitely does not look right.
