20 cal barrel

I pulled the trigger (so to speak)on a 20 cal barrel in 1-12 twist. Wonder what bullets to try first and how many i will need to see if they are accurate? Suggestions for bullets? i nave some mixed brass that i can sort if there is a best brass. ( excluding Lapua) i don't have any and with as much other brands that i have i will make something else work. Suggested loads to start?

My suggestion is 147.32 grains of US896 behind a 34 gr varmegedon

That 20 practical has the oomph to throw the 39 if it will, never know till you try......

Lt weight 20 cal bullets have their place..I use a 39 gr Sierra WS2 coated in a 1-11 twist barrel...Benchmark powder..It rocks to 500M...Mike in Ct

My Savage 12 LRPV 204 ruger prefers 40 vmax over the 32s, and it is a 12 twist. But, maybe the 20p doesn't have enough gas.

Give the 39 blitzkings a try if they shoot they are well worth it, great bc and nice pops on groundhogs, if the don't work send the remainder of the box to me (best if you buy a 500 count to test with) and I will send you a sympathy card in return.
I don't understand the problem with 39 or 40 gr bullets in a 12 twist. I have 4 204's and 3 20 vt and all will shoot both the 39 and 40 gr bullets just fine. All are 12 twist barrels, am I just lucky or what? These barrels are cooper (Wilson ) 2, cz 2, shaw 1, shilen 1 and 1 rem.

Yeah, it seems to be hit or miss with them, my first 20 cal was a 204 CZ, it wouldn't stabilize the 40g Hornadys but shot the 39g Sierras fine and that was a 12 twist.

I think the deal is, are the barrels REALLY 12 twist?????????

Just because they tell you it`s a 12 twist, doesn't guarantee it.....

Personally I don`t shoot anything but 32`s in a 12 twist, but I bought 11 twist barrels for all my 39 gr. stuff.....

Doesn't mean it won`t work, just that I don`t happen to do it that way......

You need to try it for yourself, don`t let others tell you that it won`t... it isn`t their rifle, it might work.......It might not.

Good luck with your project.

Phil.

I did the same thing, went a 11 twist mueller from bugholes, shoots itty bitty groups with 40 grainers.

Best advice yet. Try H 4198 for starters. Both should be good to go.

I have owned two XR-100 in 204 and one of those would shoot the 40 V-Max and the 39 Sierra's into 3/8" the other shoots the 39's fine BUT the 40's are 1" Plus
