Which 20 Cal?

20Tactical and Dakota Arms factory brass made by Lapua. No forming and head stamped 20 Tactical so no mix up on brass.

I like the stats on the 20VT,and my next barrel will be on a G2 contender.Everyone should have a 204ruger in whatever gun you desire. That 20VT case just looks good, and loads 8-9 grains less powder than the 204ruger,with great accuracy and velocity.

Thanks to all who have responded. I am seriously leaning towards the 20 PPC with the 40 V-Max due to the announcement of Norma PPC brass. Anyone know how the 20 PPC would feed from a repeater/magazine? Would a control found feed action aid in any feeding issues that may occur? Or happen to know when the Norma PPC brass will become available to the average Joe in the U.S.?

i know huh? Just because i have had about 10 Sako's 75's you'ld think i liked them. ;) really a great action. a little heavy but a all around great action.

The 20PPC will be a great round. It is next in my 20 caliber lineup. IMO the 220 Russian brass is the only way to go for the 20ppc. Just size, load, and shoot. Necking down from 6PPC would take multiple steps. Norma brass is always more expensive and usually not quite as good.

How bout a 20 beggs? lapua brass, no fireform, incredible ballistics, not sure how it would feed though. I wish I had more info on it. All i know is Gene beggs designed it from nothing more than a 220 russian and full sized/necked. No fireform.

I have a 20 Beggs that is getting picked up this week. The reports i've seen is nearly the same velocity as 20 PPC short without the case forming.

i dicked around for over a year trying to decide on which 20PPC I wanted to build.... standard version, -.125" short, or -.150" short. I mainly shoot live varmints as every rifle I shoot is custom built. The .125" or .150" short 20 PPC holds about 24 grs +/- of N133 when shooting a 40 gr Berger. Just about perfect for this case. Velocity should be in the 3800 to 4100 fps range.

I abandoned my project after reading about the 20 Beggs. Gene Beggs took the 220 Russian case, necked it down to 20 caliber, and retained the same shoulder angle/radius as on the PPC case. The 220 Russian holds the same amount of powder as a 22PPC -.100" short (roughly 25 - 26 grs of N133).

Basically NO case forming, just neck from .22 to .20 , drop your powder, load a bullet and shoot. It's that simple. Hornady made the custom bushing FL/NS die which Gene sells for $105.00 delivered. I will change bushings as needed for neck/bullet tension. I already have a Wilson 20PPC BS die which will work fine for the 20 Beggs.

My HART 1:12" barrel was just chambered last week by Don Geraci as I'll be picking it up in the next 2 weeks. Barrel is threaded for a Kelbly action so it will fit on any of my custom actions .... Panda, Kodiak, and/or Grizzly II. #7 LV contour finished at 24" as rifle will weigh around 11.5 lbs scoped. Mainly used to shoot live varmints off the bench and shoot paper.

A good friend (Ken Ekstrand) over near San Antonio already has a 20 Beggs. Ken shared some of his loading data with me as I can't wait to shoot my first coyote, jackrabbit, or crow.

26 grs N133 with a 35 gr Berger = 4350 fps.
25.2 grs of N133 with a 40 gr Berger = 4200 + fps.

Lapua brass and Vitavhouri powders = scary accurate.

Sometimes we make it harder than it needs to be. Gene beggs could answer your question better than me. All I know is it works.
