I am contemplating a 17 pound plus 20 cal. rifle. I already have the 20 VarTarg and the 20 Tac. and 204. If someone has one for sale or perhaps suggestions on a heavy build like this let me know and thanks in advance.

Probably just take to the range and shoot with no recoil not competition just needs to shoot in the high 1's or low 2's. Im a stickler for accuracy. I have my other 20's for Groundhog's

Waiting for the tube as we speak...P-N 20 Practical..11 twist/3 groove
28" w/no taper or straight cylinder as they call it...large shank
Savage Target s/shot action...Choate Ultimate Varminter stock with
added lead shot in stock's hollow cavities...usually run right at 18#
P/dogs are the target...no recoil...watch the dog fly & die before recoil
is felt..even out to 500+....moly 40 V max @ 3900 fps...whats not to
like...except the wait for the barrel....5 months now... :'(

Which do you think would be the more accurate the 20ppc or the 20BR. Or if I cant get a barrel maybe a 221 fireball :-\ lots to consider

700 action is what its looking like unless I sell a gun or two then I would go with a upgraded action.

Several years ago I built a 20PPC on a sleeved XP-100 action. The sleeve is a foot long, aluminum and resembles a Stolle Polar action. I put a Lilja 10 twist, 1.350 unturned blank on it and the whole thing is glued in a Lee Six 1000 Yd, stock. With the Leupold 6.5x20 scope the rifle weighs 1 Oz. short of 25 Lbs. The first time I shot it I couldn't figure out what was wrong. The rifle went off and didn't move, and a
tiny hole appeared on my target. This rifle is absolutely devastating on PD's. It resides in New Mexico, with my hunting buddy Dave, as it is way too expensive to ship back and forth.

Eddie now that is exactally what I have interest in. Could you by chance send a few pics to
ernie70@ptd.net

The 25# 20PPC must be a joy to shoot...........but 18# works well for me...from the pick up bed to the portable table is a far as mine goes..I let the 'bullet do the walking'.....I currently have three 20's set up for p/dog removal....as I call it...20 VT..20 PT & 20-222..all weighing in at 16-17#...all Salvage s/shots & P-N tubes...all rechambered to these current calibers......prior calibers were 2-204's & one 20BR...in my experience these calibers are all the average p/dog shooter needs...unless you wanna reach 1K+ yards......then you take your heavy 6XC or 6.5x55.....recoil & loss of sight picture then becomes an issue.....

farmer, I sent the only picture that I could find. Please feel free to post it here as I'm unable to do so. I have several XP-100 actions and one of those stocks in the shop. I need to locate another sleeve and a barrel and another rifle will be in the works.

I have a 20BR built for long range varmint and target work. Rifle is about 14lbs, Badger 3 screw mounts, nearly another pound and an NSX at about 2 lbs. That is a very steady rifle to shoot, 27 inch Bartlien, one of their early barrels, Lawton 7500, walnut flat forend bag friendly laminate stock from Bill Schane at Scope Us Out.

Rifle is ideal as a truck/bench gun but you dont want to be carrying it to far. Lifetime 96% first shot kills on foxes out to around 300 yards. On a bench it shoots .2/.3 depending on how I read the wind, thats off a bipod. Think with a pedestal I could shave that down a bit.

If building one today I would opt for a bit lighter weight, something around 11lbs all up.
