What's closest to Varget

Arcomp I've found shoots just as well as varget and usually right in the same charge weight. I started using arcomp in my 308 and loved it. Also using it in my 303 Brit also

As Far as burn rates go this is how they are listed, I like RL15 out of these from Fast to Slow.

#99 RL15
#100 VV n140
#101 Varget
#102 Imr 4320
#103 Win 748

If you want a temp stable powder like Varget, your choices are more limited.

IMR-4166 & H-4895 work well in different temps. The new RL-16 sounds like a good candidate as well.

IMR-4451 & H4350 are also temp stable and will work for you with 60grainers, tho max loads might be a little compressed.

As far as burn rates go, IMR 4320, N140 and N540 are pretty close.

I find H4895 to perform pretty close to varget just a bit shorter cut.

I have been using IMR 4166 with 175 SMK's in my .308. it has performed well. appears to be a bit hotter than Varget or IMR 4064. the sticks are bigger than Varget but not the "log" size of 4064. meters kinda like Varget, though.

IMR8208 would be my number one choice other than Varget...

I'm a also big fan of IMR8208, it is slightly faster than Varget. QuickLoad shows the pressure curve to be almost identical to Varget. I used for about 18 months and 4,000 rounds for my .308 when I couldn't find Varget and it did really well. It is dense and its kernels are half (.010 of a grain) the size of Varget so it flows like water. I almost didn't go back to Varget if it weren't for the fact that I got a chance to buy 4 kegs at a very reasonable price. I may still go back to it. Highly recommended.

What 308 bullet were you using and what was the difference in accuracy and velocity between your 8208 load and your Varget load. if you don't mind sharing some load data.
Any info is appriciated

I am switching over to F-tr using the Berger 200gr Hybrid and have heard of some using 8208 with success.

Thanks

IMR 4166. Tested and used it in Dasher for a time when Varget was not available. Now, Varget is literally "everywhere".
