The Dasher 100 Yard Challenge

Ok guys here it is. For those of you who have access to a 100 yard range. Go out and shoot an aggregate with your Dasher. That is 5 groups of 5 shots. Be honest with your results. No take-backs, do-overs, slippsys, no cheating or skullduggery or Photoshopping! Just shoot your five groups and see what results you get.

Measure your groups from outside to outside edge and subtract the diameter of the bullet! Add up your five groups and divide by 5 to determine your aggregate.

As a matter of fact take your best gun and see what it will do! Dasher, BRX, 6x47L 6BR whatever you got.

Post your results here!

Bart

This aught to be fun. I'm looking forward to seeing the results. It would be nice to see the groups. Pictures, lots of pictures of groups.

Bart -

First off, like the challenge idea.... !.!.!

Do you have a tuner on that Dasher?
When I give it a whirl, I will do it with some of those from you, in my LT-Gun with a Bartein w/ Ezell Tuner.

Donovan,

Yes that one had a tuner on it! I was disappointed it didn't do better! I'll keep working it! I shot cartridges that I had loaded for a match and wanted to see what they would do.

That was with my Dasher on a Scarbrough stock with a Krieger barrel. I the three low shots killed the agg. I will try and tighten that up.

Bart
Looks like you have the new dasher up and running.
I'll go first! Nothing impressive, but a 266 agg.
looks like you have that new dasher up and running good...
Any ideal why the one shot in 3 of the groups dropped out the bottom?
Did either of them happen on the 5th shot? I know you have punched about 2,0000,000 more holes in a target than myself. You have given myself and many others great information and knowledge on bag set up, working up a load and don't forget about those great bullets you work so hard to make us....This post should run for a few weeks so maybe I will have time to post a target.
Thank you Bart......

The three dropped shots were in the load. Nothing to do with bags, conditions or anything I should or shouldn't have done. The only group I hurt with the 5th shot was the last group. I over held on the last shot. That one was on me.

Bart, I shot my Dasher w/ Bartlein gain twist barrel (8.25-7.75 twist) in a 300 yard score match last Saturday. This is my 7th year to use this barrel in 600 yard competition. It has over 2000 rounds and continues to shoot well, but I don't know when it will choose to die. For the 300 yard match I shot 68 grain FB bullets pushed by 33.6 grains of Varget. The load shot well but was too mild and the cases did not expand enough to seal the case to the chamber and my brass had smudges. The match consisted of two, 10-shot targets and I was lucky enough to win with 198/6X. The fast twist barrels will shoot the short BR bullets. I may try your challenge, but I have to get a better load. James Mock PS- I was testing the new lightweight NF 42X Competition scope. This scope weighs 20.7 ounces and features superb optics.

James,

Great shooting! I was just out this morning shooting my 68bt in my 1-8 Dasher. First load I tried was 33.6 of varget it chronographed around 3000. It sounded like I was shooting a muzzle loader. Just like you experienced it wasn't enough to seal the cartridge. Took it up to 36 grains and it was running about 3400. The guns cracking nicely and the groups looking better! Its going to be a snotty day here as far as the wind goes. Great for practice but not much for tuning.

Bart or other Dasher shooters, I am considering shooting the Bart 68BT with N135 powder. Since I don't have any data for that combination, I am asking for some guidance for using N135. I need to save my Varget for shooting the 105 gr. VLD's. Thanks, James

James call vihtavuori or extrapolate from a burn rate chart. I use it in a 22-250 exclusively so i know it should be perfect. You may find data for a br you can work from

JD Just ran your inquiry through QL, Bart's bullets are not in the data base so I substituted 68 Gr. Barnes Match bullets since the are the same weight and have a boattail. I would start at 35Gr's and work up slowly. According to QL you should be able to get to 37.8 Gr's which should be in the pressure range of apprx. 63,416 psi. At 35Gr's. you'll be in the 49 to 50,000 psi area. I think you should be able to find something you like before you get into the upper pressure limits. As stated QL is only a prediction, so always work up slowly and watch for any signs of pressure. Hope this helps.

in my first BRDX bbl with 68s I was getting almost 3600 fps with Benchmark and less than .250 groups,,havent tried 68s with 2nd bbl but it will shoot the 105s better than .250,,may try this next time I get it out,,

I took the Dasher and the 105s out to 200 yards today and shot an agg. Winds are 15mph plus and switchy. First group a couple of the shots got blown off paper. I had to go down to the target and measure that one befor I took it down. Much happier with the gun today. I thought it shot extremely well for the conditions. I had a couple of heartbreakers. The 3rd group turned into a 490 but the first 3 were a 204 you can see them at 1 o'clock on the mothball. The 659 had 4 into a 316. Ahhhh what could have been! That's an uncut unvarnished .2628 agg.

Screen shot of the weather just encase you thought I was kidding

Bart, out of curiosity do you think you would have agg'd better if you were shooting your ppc that day in those conditions?
